Some of the fashion’s most endearing black models, have inspired us to be fiercesome competitors on the catwalk stage. Like a revolving door, these fashion veterans Iman, Naomi Campbell and Tyra Banks transpired a legion of models to strut the runways and become the face of beauty labels around the world. You may have even jumped on the bandwagon to pursue fashion modeling full-time! But as you very well know, its a conceivable obstacle which takes work and years in the making.
Here’s how to be a breakthrough fashion model:
1. Take pictures of yourself
Life itself embraces the notion that beauty comes from within. It’s a statement that reverberates in the fashion industry, since its about showcasing your beauty and slim figure. You should feel comfortable in your own skin to capture your beautiful essence on camera. Take a wide variation of pictures that are professional and marketable to a specific fashion agency. You may have to make sacrifices by visiting larger cities that house modeling agencies.
5. Practice walking on the runway stage
Watching your favorite models struting the catwalks looks easier said than done. But, can you envision walking down a 28-long platform in a 7-inch heel with the spotlight on your every move? The experience seems less enchanting than appealing. With much practice, you can stride like a pro by imitating the model strut, pose and fierce behavior that classy models represent. In addition, study other models in fashion magazines, television shows like America’s Next Top Model and Project Runway before showcasing your abilities to modeling agents. You have plenty of sources to pull inspiration from.
6. Build a portfolio and resume
During your job search, its a necessity to bring a portfolio and resume with you to network and market your abilities. Expect that fashion labels will be looking for consistency, a look requirement and photographs you’ve taken in various circuits around the country. Fashion agencies adore models who are thriving in their own write, and can make a valuable asset to their company. Always feel like there is something in it for you and for them.
7. Sign up for casting calls
