Though the Basketball Wives franchise may very well be a sinking ship, business savvy Jackie Christie is determined to ride that ship until the rudder falls off— and we certainly can’t blame her. The reality star recently celebrated the release of her new relationships book, Sexual Relations: A His & Her Guide To Sexual Intimacy and she’s already busy working on her next big project.
During a recent interview with Sister 2 Sister, Jackie revealed that she’s in addition to working on her next book, she’s also in the pre-production stages of putting together a movie to go with that book, both titled The Land of Sex and Money.
“It’s actually in pre-production. I’m so excited. The script has been done as well for that feature film. I have the book; I haven’t released it yet. I’m going to wait until the movie comes out and simultaneously release them,” Jackie said.
Though Jackie wasn’t willing to give up too many details about the forthcoming project, she did say that the book is urban fiction.
“I won’t give away too much about it, but it’s very salacious. It’s very deep. It’s in the vein of New Jack City and Sugar Hill–those type of movies, which I happen to love. I’m so honored to be bringing it to televisions and movie screens across the nation.”
Despite all of the negative things that are said about her, we have to commend Jackie for not allowing herself to be discouraged by naysayers.
A couple of days ago former Basketball Wives: LA star Laura Govan spoke out against the show’s executive producer Shaunie O’Neal, claiming that Shaunie ruined the franchise by hiring hos. During a recent interview with Mara The Hip Hop Socialite, Laura’s former co-star Jackie Christie opened up about the upcoming season of BBW: LA and defended Shaunie against Laura’s comments.
On Laura Govan’s comments that Shaunie O’Neal ruined Basketball Wives:
“I feel like everybody is entitled to their own opinion, and I feel like Shaunie has done a great thing. I have to take my hat off to Shaunie first and foremost. Not only is she one of my closest friends, I respect her; I feel like I’m a part of her franchise, and I’m proud of the show. I feel like there’s a lot of girlfriends and fiancées and everything just in general, but it’s okay. The show is titled Basketball Wives, but it doesn’t necessarily have to mean wives. It could be an ex-wife, like with the Miami version, a lot of them are ex-wives, but they are wives. So I think it’s more about the females involved with professional athletes, basketball athletes world. That’s what I think the show is basically saying. So our show this season without giving it away, there’s about three or four wives actually on Basketball Wives: LA. So it is what it is. I don’t really know what happened as far as how that conversation came about with Laura making those comments, so I’d be speaking out of turn, but I look at what Shaunie has done in only a positive light. And not only Shaunie, but Shed Media, VH1, everybody.”
On BBW: LA’s four new cast members:
“It’s going fantastic…I can’t give away much, but I can definitely say I’m back, Draya Michele, Malaysia Pargo, and then four new girls that’s just absolutely amazing Oh no, they will not allow me to do that [identify the four new girls]; I wish I could. But stay tuned, because pretty soon, they’re going to announce everybody. But I think it kind of got leaked out a little bit that someone had saw there were two new cast members, but they made it very clear for us not to speak about that. I can say they’re exciting, they’re going to shock a lot of people, and this is going to be our best season yet.”
On Brooke Bailey’s exit from the show:
“No, I don’t know. As far as Brooke, I haven’t seen her. I went to her event about two months ago, so I was as surprised as everyone else when I looked up and saw that. So I don’t know how that all happened. I wish everybody the best. You know, ex-cast members and stuff, I hope that they do some great things. But I’m very excited about Basketball Wives: LA season three. I’m over the moon about it, and I can’t wait for it to come out.”
I’m guessing we weren’t the only ones pretty confused about Laura Govan’s comments about Shaunie O’Neal “ruining” the Basketball Wives franchise because of her inclusion of everyone BUT actual wives. As she told TMZ:
“I’m kind of mad at Shaunie. I kind of felt like she didn’t keep it in the ‘basketball creed.’ She should have just kept Basketball Wives, basketball wives. It could have been a ‘Housewives or a Ho’ show for everybody else later.”
So where is the confusion exactly? It comes with the fact that Govan isn’t even married, she’s just engaged to Gilbert Arenas (and they have four children together), and the fact that she was constantly accused of messing with Shaquille O’Neal while he was still married to Shaunie. Therefore, she doesn’t have all that much room to talk. And this is all ironic considering she once said the following:
“I just don’t like the way the public perceives women who aren’t married vs. the way they perceive women that are. People place so much value on having a great wedding instead of having a great relationship; that’s why you see people get married and divorced so quickly. I’ve been with the same man for 12 years, we have four children and we’re happy. Focus on that.”
Interesting…While Shaunie hasn’t responded to such comments of her ruining the show, Basketball Wives LA breakout star Draya Michele also spoke to TMZ about what Govan had to say, and told them that Govan’s not even on the show anymore, so she needs to stop talking already, especially since she’s not even married.
“I mean, the title is “Basketball Wives” but technically, anyone who’s speaking on who’s married and who’s not should technically be married. And if we want to be technical, Laura’s not on the show anymore. So…[shrugs] She seems a little bitter. She’s a little bitter.”
And in an interview with the JasmineBrand.com, Michele went even further when asked about Govan’s comments:
“You know, I just kind of listen. The only people’s opinions which matters to me are the people that I work with everyday and she’s not on the show anymore so her opinion really doesn’t matter.”
While it’s been obvious that Shaunie and co. have been more about bringing on ex-girlfriends, the mothers of NBA ballers’ children and drama-creating firestarter friends rather than actual wives, there’s just something about Laura Govan having an opinion about that (especially after the show has doled out plenty of checks to her) that just seems backwards. But what do you think?
We know we’re not the only ones who saw Lil Scrappy and “Basketball Wives’” reality star Bambi together and thought, what the hell is this all about?
Ever since Erica and Scrappy called it quits, he’s been since prancing around the A with this new arm candy from a fellow VH1 show, prompting everyone to assume their relationship was just that — a show. But when we talked to Bambi before the BET Hip-Hop Awards last week, she told us that’s absolutely not the case.
“We’re together, we’ve been friends for a couple years,” she said. “When I first moved to Atlanta I met Scrap and we were friends and when his relationship ended ours started — whoever it was he was with, it was multiple people so when he was done with everybody he was dealing with, we started.”
About those multiple people…We’ve seen on “Love & Hip-Hop Atlanta” how Scrappy likes to keep one lady by his side and another in his back pocket, which is why we don’t understand a woman getting involved with the ATL rapper and somehow expecting him to be all about them. But when we asked Bambi whether she’s worried about Scrappy cheating on her like he did his exes, she said she’s not worried at all because “she knows him well.”
So you think.

During the Basketball Wives LA reunion special, the majority of cast members seated on the stage expressed their desire for the Govan sisters to leave the show. It looks like their wish has been granted. During a recent interview with the Jasmine Brand, Gloria Govan confirmed that she and her sister, Laura, will be starring in their own show.
“We’re working on a family show – me and my sister, Gilbert, Matt, all of our kids – you know, my sister has got like 18 kids. I [was] just saying “Gosh! You have a lot of kids!” Yeah, it’s really 4. But it feels like 18, because they’re all over the place. So yeah, we’re doing a lot of stuff. We have a lot of stuff that we’re doing together which is really cool,” she expressed.
She went on to say that she hopes to show the world what it’s really like to be a “basketball wife” through her show.
“So the show would be just the Govans. I mean the Govan sisters and their husbands and their families. You know Gilbert Arenas is one of the greatest players that has played. Matt is obviously, he just came off from one of his best seasons in his entire career so we’re really excited about what that one brings. But really, we just want to show people that the real, true grind of the basketball wives and just being what it looks like to be in that life. Mainly I think it’d really just show us and our families and how much stuff we really have going on.”
As for the network that will air this grand reality show, the mom of two says a deal hasn’t been secured yet.
“We’re still working on it. We have a few actually, networks but we haven’t locked down on one yet,” she said.
Would you watch a reality show starring the Govan sisters?
Gloria Govan may be following in the footsteps of ”Basketball Wives LA” cast mate Jackie Christie; she and husband Matt Barnes just got married for the second time this past weekend.
Last year, the two were wed in a private Las Vegas ceremony. Unfortunately, VH1’s cameras were not there to record the extravagant affair since Gloria will not be returning to the drama-filled BBW LA franchise, but have no fear Gloria fans — word on the street is she may have a spinoff show in the near future.
Despite their sisterly issues during BBW LA Season 2, Laura Govan served as Gloria’s maid of honor during the ceremony, and in true rathet fashion, Tupac’s “All Eyez On Me” was the chosen song for the bride’s processional, while her two sons walked her down the aisle. Black Twitter has never been known to exercise chill. Case in the point, the #AskDraya trending topic making a mockery of one Draya Michele.
Long story short; Michele is one of the stars of VH1′s reality show Basketball Wives: Los Angeles and a, shall we say, “woman about town.” The source of the vitriol hurled her way are her much criticized parenting skills, or lack thereof. Born Andraya Howard, she was found guilty of child endangerment back in 2010 for leaving her then 7-year-old son in Wyomissing, Pa. while she was busy working stripper poles in Philadelphia. It came to light on the show, she denied it, but the police report said it was true.
Then today, BET started an #AskDraya hashtag to coincide with her appearance on 106 & Park. Bad move—the slander shortly reached unholy levels. Also, for the record, Hip-Hop Wired had an #AskDraya Bangin Candy video post popping last year. Y’all just showed more chill. Thanks, we think.
Draya Michele was most recently seen kicking it backstage at this weekend’s Hot 97 Summer Jam XX concert. Nope, her son was nowhere in sight. Anyway, today’s slander seems exceptionally cold-blooded, even by Black Twitter standards. Check out the 15 meanest tweets in the following pages. Clutch your Bibles tight…

Insensitive? “BBWLA” Star Draya Michele To Sell “Say No To Drugs” Shirt With Whitney Houston On It For Her “Fine A** Girls” Clothing Line
As we’ve told you in the past, Basketball Wives LA star Draya Michele is not just a reality star or hip-hop booty model. She’s actually a businesswoman trying to push makeup and clothing, doing the latter through her second fashion line, Fine A** Girls, which is known for fun tees, as well as sweaters, lingerie and skull cap hats. When speaking with VH1 not too long ago about what the line is all about, she said it’s about empowering women:
“I just wanted to start something that could motivate girls. It’s like a confidence booster. I’m lucky enough to hang around really good people, I have really amazing friends, and they’re also really beautiful and we take a lot of pride in looking how we look. We’re just trying to be all-around good people, so it’s just a movement for empowerment.”
But she’s been catching a bit of heat for an upcoming shirt she’s working on with the line that shows a young Whitney Houston holding a Boston Herald “Say ‘No’ To Drugs!” anti-drug bumper sticker back in 1986. Houston was about 23 at the time, smiling it up, not knowing the direction drugs would take her life in as she got older. For the shirt, the words “Early 20′s” are featured over her smiling face, and the shirt seems to be a warning for others. We guess…Here’s what she said when she posted the pic on Instagram:
“New from #finea**girls….#early20s #saynotodrugs…#yesiknowits420″
But when her followers called her out for being a bit insensitive, she posted the original picture and set the record straight:
FYI: we would never disrespect the DIVA … She held up the sign herself … Just raising awareness among girls #early20s
I guess the reality personality was trying to claim that she wants young ladies to be aware and to stay away from drugs, but did we really need to use Whitney Houston’s face to push the point? Especially since none of the other tops on her website use anybody else’s image, including her own, on the shirts to sell the shirts or send a message. Seems like a bit much too soon, and in all honesty, I don’t know if it would be appropriate in five years, 10 years, 15 or more–it just comes off very unnecessary.

Sorry Jackie: Now That The Future Of “Basketball Wives LA” Is Up In The AIr, Could Draya Michele Be Getting Her Own Show?
It’s funny how life works. It was just the first season of Basketball Wives LA in 2011 that Draya, the lone woman on the show who really didn’t have that much of an affiliation with a basketball player (just Chris Brown for the most part), was being bullied, literally beat up on and confronted by everybody in her business for allegedly being a bad mother. She was the show’s punching bag. But now in 2013, and with the show’s future murky at the moment after some pretty disastrous ratings a second time around, Michele seems to be the one who is going to have the last laugh. She’s become probably the most likable person on that pretty boring show, and since the second season finished, she’s had the most success, starting a “clothing” line (just sweaters and hats) called Fine A** Girls, rubbing elbows with pretty famous folks on the regular, and being followed across LA on the regular by paparazzi. But she might be milking the most from her time on the show than all of her cast mates, because according to reports, Draya could be getting her own reality show very soon.
Global Grind says they spoke to an exclusive source who says that Draya could be getting her own show called Fine A** Girls, which of course is the same name of the aforementioned clothing line. Here’s what they say the show will possibly focus on:
“The new reality show would focus on Draya and her friends. The viewers will be introduced to a bunch of fine women, as they work on their brands, party and deal with men and much more. If you follow Draya on twitter you’ve been noticing her promoting her friends a lot more.”
With the exception of Brooke Bailey and Laura Govan, the cast of Basketball Wives: LA appeared to be pretty much through with Gloria Govan-Barnes by the time the highly anticipated reunion show rolled around. Malaysia Pargo even suggested that the outspoken aspiring actress exit stage left, claiming that Govan frequently behaved as if she was so above the show and so much better than her cast mates. Hip Hollywood recently caught up with Govan at the premiere of The Call. During the brief interview, Glo expressed that although there has been no word indicating whether or not the LA spinoff will be returning for another season, she has no interest in continuing as a part of the ”Basketball Wives” franchise.
“We haven’t been picked up for a third season yet, so I’m not really sure where we are with it. But, I’m really excited about the upcoming projects Matt and I have going on. When push comes to shove, when the time is right, I think it’ll be about time I leave that show anyway. I probably most likely will not be on Basketball Wives: LA again. So we [Matt and I] have some really cool and exciting stuff that will be wrapping up this week, so definitely look out for that.”
Govan’s husband Matt Barnes acted as her hype-man during the interview, obviously happy that his wife is making plans to bid the VH1 series adieu. It’s been no secret that Matt wasn’t exactly approving of Gloria’s participation on the show or her cast members. We can’t say for sure exactly what projects Gloria are Matt are working on, but we’re sure that we’ll be hearing about them in coming weeks. It would be somewhat interesting to see how Laura interacts with the cast without her sister.
Peep footage of Gloria’s interview on the next page. Should VH1 renew Basketball Wives: LA for another season?
