I had been waiting on this collaboration from Jilly from Philly and the most soulful man in the game, Anthony Hamilton, for a good long while now. So when I heard that these two were getting together on a track, I knew some type of magic was going to take place. And I was not disappointed. “So In Love” is a classic “shake something down at the family reunion” type of song. It just feels good. Which is exactly why it’s the jam of the day. Hopefully, it’ll spread some positive vibes all over your Monday morning situation.
Did you hear? One of our favorite R&B crooners, Anthony Hamilton, is the father of a newborn son by the name of Princeton Harris Hamilton. Little man, whose photograph looks like something out of the Anne Geddes portfolio, was born at the beginning of June. He is joining already 20-month-old twin brothers Aaron Michael and Nolan Anthony. According to Black Celeb Kids, Anthony also has two older children from previous relationships: Anthony Jr, 22, Romero, 20, and Tristen, 14. Congratulations Mr. Hamilton!!!
Does this little lady look familiar? If you hadn’t checked out our Style to Steal from Friday, you should know that little Miss Thang is Ava Dash, Roy’s daughter with ex-husband, Damon Dash. They both hit up a screening of the film, “The Campaign” together. I can see both Rachel and Dame all over this young lady’s face!
And who is little Miss diva here? It’s Chance Combs of course! She was photo’d in her stunner shades and letting her curls breathe. Definitely a diva-in-training!
Chris Bosh sat out the Olympics this go-round as he healed from injuries during the NBA season. While on break, he also took time out to vacay with his growing family. Bosh, his wife Adrienne and their son Jackson took some photos during their jetsetting trip to Venice, and it’s clear that Jackson is growing up fast! Cute hat by the way Mrs. Bosh!
And last but not least, Mel B shared some photos of her girls vacationing and just spending quality time with their mum. Below is Angel, her 6-year-old daughter from her relationship with Eddie Murphy, 13-year-old Phoenix from a previous relationship, and the adorable Madison, her 10-month old with husband Stephen Belafonte.

As we move through June, we continue to celebrate Black Music Month. If you’re anything like me as an R&B/soul music fan, when you are introduced to an artist who you think is amazing, you want them to succeed. But then again, you don’t want them to blow up so much for fear that the music will change or become watered down. Today, we take a look at some of today’s best and brightest in soul who’ve received lots of attention but haven’t really allowed the music to suffer in the process. Who’s your favorite R&B/soul artist of today?
Note: This list certainly is not the sum of all the artists we love because as an R&B lover, I could go on for days. This is just a “to wet your appetite” list and this could be never ending. That’s why we want you to add your favorites in the comments. Enjoy!
There are two artists I might end a friendship over if you speak ill of them, and Jill Scott is one of them. For years, Jill has proven herself as a musical force to be reckoned with – there are few who can match that voice and those songwriting abilities. She sings in different languages, she sings her songs in operatic tone, and her range is amazing. We’re always ready for new music from Jilly from Philly.
Surprise, surprise…celebs hook up while they work together! I mean, why not? Don’t some people at our jobs hook up on the low (or not so low, lol)? Anyway, here’s a list of a few former and current couples who have hooked up (some have never spoke on it but the rumor mill has always buzzed about it)! Who else can you think of?
Maybe it’s a look he gives you. Maybe it’s a touch. MAYBE it’s what you see in him when he’s not looking at you that makes you think, “He got this.” Well, here are some of the celebrity couples that we don’t always see and what the husbands have said about their wives or marriage that might make us say, “He LOVES that woman.” Oh and they better not split up within the next two weeks after we give them these props, lol…
These days, finding a good love song on the radio is like locating snow in Nevada. Sure it happens but you have to go to great lengths to see it. Unless you’re listening to an old school hour, the love songs of today leave a lot to be desired. But they are out there; so in the spirit of 2011 coming to a close, we’ve taken the time to compile some of the best love songs this year had to offer.
1. “So in Love”
Jill Scott Feat. Anthony Hamilton
I love your mannerisms, babe,
The way you handle them
Oh, I’m so proud to be with you
So attracted to you too…
Is it really a surprise that these two members of the royal family of soul would produce the smooth groove of the year? Jill and Anthony have been on my fantasy collaboration list for a very long time. So I was excited to see them working together. If you’ve been known to step, this song was made just for you.
Okay, so you didn’t get to go to the Essence Music Festival and you’re looking to hear some good music. Who better than Jill Scott? Jilly from Philly is headlining this year’s Budweiser Superfest, which kicks off on July 26 to August 28. The “So in Love” singer will get some help from soul brotha Anthony Hamilton and Mint Condition, and everyone’s favorite beatboxer, Doug E. Fresh will be hosting the tour stops. Certain cities will also host Dwele, Anthony David and Jon B.
But aside from watching some big name crooners tear up the stage, Budweiser is also seeking local talent in cities ranging from Detroit to Houston for their “Opening Act” competition, brought to the masses by MySpace Music. The competition will offer winners the chance to be an opening act for the Budweiser Superfest show taking place in their city. Competitions will take weeks prior to the concerts, and after the tour has ended, people can go on the MySpace Music website and vote for their favorite performer. The big winner of the “Opening Act” competition will win $25,000.
If you’re looking to blow up, see more information on the “Opening Act” competition here. If you’re just interested in enjoying the show, tour dates can be found on Ticketmaster and Live Nation‘s websites. Enjoy!
One of our absolute favorites Jilly from Philly releases her fourth studio, “Light of the Sun” today. Are you smiling inside? We are. In case you haven’t had a chance to hear the singles she’s already released; the album features collaborations with soul singer Anthony Hamilton, female MC Eve and the South’s own Paul Wall…yes Paul Wall.
We can tell you from listening ourselves that the album is definitely worth your time…and treasure. (Yes, that means buy it.) Jill doesn’t stray from the formula we fell in love with and combines her usual mix of sultry sexiness with sagacity.
Check out this video of Jill speaking about her latest studio effort.
You can buy the record on iTunes now! http://wbr.fm/JillScottLOTS
Jilly from Philly has been on a bit of a hiatus, when it comes to producing albums. Instead the artist has been touring with Maxwell and co-starring in Tyler Perry films. But recently, much to our delight, Jill released her latest single “So In Love.” To make a good situation even better, the track features Anthony Hamilton. Check it out below:
Geneva S. Thomas, a writer over at AOL’s Black Voices shared her opinion on the latest from Jill and expounded on why we, the listening audience, need her in the industry.
Thomas said “Scott’s single feels like an inhaler for the relief of a sonic asthma attack.”
Whew! Check out what else she had to say about the industry and Jill over at Black Voices.
Before the Grammys kicked off, The Roots hosted their 7th annual jam session at The Music Box in L.A. The band was joined by some of our favorite artists, many of whom performed, as well as Hollywood actors. See who made an appearance in the pictures below:
