We’re a little late on this news, but yesterday afternoon New York Knicks player Amar’e Stoudemire and his wife Alexis Welch welcomed their fourth child into the world. The basketball player shared the news on Twitter around 3:45 pm May 22, saying:

The couple, who has been together since 2002 (with a few breakups and new lovers — like Ciara — in between) already had three children together — daughters Assata and Are, and son Amare – with their new baby boy making their fourth. The pair just wed in a private ceremony on the rooftop of the baller’s apartment on 12/12/12 after becoming engaged in Paris in June of last year. Since then, we’ve seen the 30-year-old and his lady gushing about their expectant child on red carpets, in the classic pre- birth, stomach groping pose.

Congrats to the lovely parents on having a healthy baby boy!

No, seriously, 2013 has to be the year of engagements and babies for celebrities, because everybody has an announcement to make in this early new year about a ring they’ve been given, or a child they’re bearing. But no shade, I love it!

After having a low-key wedding in December on 12-12-12, Amar’e Stoudemire and his wife, Alexis Welch (probably Stoudemire now) are already ready to expand their somewhat large family with baby number four. The two have been together since 2002 and were engaged in June of last year, but they surprised everyone when they wed out of the blue on the roof of their apartment in NYC in December. They are already the proud parents of 7-year old Ar’e, 6-year-old Amar’e Jr., and 4-year-old Assata, who all took part in their December wedding. According to an exclusive interview with People, the whole family is ecstatic. “It was just perfect timing” says Alexis, who is dealing with some morning sickness here and there but is doing fine.

“We’re blessed that we were able to extend our family,” said Amar’e, who feels that the more kids they can have, the better. He told the magazine, “We’re both huge on having a nice size family. It was something we’ve been talking about for a while. It happened naturally and at the right time so it all worked out.”

While they’re not sure what the sex of the child is as of yet, the baby is due in the late spring. And once the little blessing is brought into the world, Amar’e says he hopes to have a huge wedding for Alexis in the summer, and also for Stoudemire’s teammates, who weren’t aware of their wedding and sure weren’t invited. While their private wedding on 12-12-12 was beautiful, the couple still wants the chance to go all out. It’s clear that 2013 is going to be an amazing year for the couple and their gorgeous family! Congrats!

According to the NY Post, NBA Baller Amar’e Stoudemire and his fiancée, Alexis Welch, were a part of the mass of engaged couples who rushed out to jump the broom on 12/12/12 and make their special day even more special by occurring on a day that won’t come around again.

The couple, who has been dating, probably off and on, since 2002, got engaged this summer in Paris, and reportedly tied the knot yesterday in a super-private ceremony on the rooftop of the Knicks’ apartment.

Sources say the couple was inspired by the special 12/12/12 date, and wed in front of their three children — Amar’e Jr., Ar’eand Assata — and a few other family members. “Less than seven other people were there, no Knicks teammates. It was just about them,” a source said.

As has become the trend among celebs lately, the couple is planning a much bigger and more extravagant celebration that everyone can attend, the source added:

“They are planning a big bash next year for friends and family to have a great time.”

On Twitter, Amar’e also confirmed the news, by tweeting this pic of their wedding rings and saying: “12.12.12 now has a special & spiritual meaning for us.”

Alexis Welch is winning.

After ten years and three kids with New York Knicks power forward and center Amar’e Stoudemire, he proposed to her last week…in Paris…with an 8.5 carat stunner for all of his Twitter followers to see:

A couple of days later, he referred to his new fiance as his “lioness” on Twitter while they took in the Miami-Celtics game courtside. Well, anyone who can stay with an NBA player for ten years and three kids without a ring is certainly a lioness.

Outside of these reality shows, we rarely hear from NBA wives and girlfriends, especially while things are good, but Alexis talked to the New York Post today about how they met, the proposal and moving to NYC.

About the proposal she said:

“I’m usually on top of everything, but he got me. We were going to France to visit Cognac [area],” says Welch, who describes a whirlwind trip of cognac tasting, plus a jaunt to Paris, where they stayed in the royal suite at Le Meurice Hotel Belle Etoile, went to the Louvre and took in a Kanye West and Jay-Z concert.

On their last night in the French capital, she says, “We went back [to the room], and there were rose petals leading to a balcony with a 365-degree view of Paris. We walked out to the twinkling lights of the Eiffel Tower.

“He had an acoustic-guitar player. He had a saxophonist. This is another side of Amar’e that people don’t get to see. I’m just getting teary-eyed talking about it.”

Stoudemire hired a photographer to capture their trip, including the magical moment.

The duo flew home the next morning to tell their children, who are equally excited.

The pair met when they were just nineteen. Welch says the conversation clicked, and because she is 5-foot-10, she liked that he was 6-foot-11: “I’ve always liked guys who were taller than me when I wear heels.”

About moving to NYC from Miami, she told the NY Post that she isn’t expecting her life to change too much. “She does plan on working with the Amar’e Stoudemire Foundation, which focuses on outreach to at-risk youth, adding, ‘I’ll take my time and only do things that make sense for our family.’”

Welch says most of her friends are in Phoenix but she likes the Knicks players wives and girlfriends and she feels closest to Tyson Chandler’s wife.

She said: “It’s been a whirlwind. I’m so overjoyed. Everyone is calling, wanting to know all of the details. I’m marrying my best friend.”

A wedding date hasn’t been set, but the couple plans to marry in 2013.
