The Hollywood Black Film Festival (HBFF) has cancelled its 2010 edition which would have taken place in June, due to the downturn in the economy. The “festival team” cited the recession, and consequent budgetary restrictions tying the hands of its principal sponsors, as the reasons why this year’s event will not take place.

“Many of our sponsorship contacts have lost their jobs, and most have cut back their sponsorships entirely,” said Tanya Kersey, founder and executive director of the popular festival, currently in its 11th year.  “Everyone is struggling and the financial support just isn’t there,” she added.

“We’re toying with the idea of producing one or two small events later this year but the big 6-day event definitely will not happen in 2010,” Kersey said.

The festival is in talks with potential new sponsors with an eye towards returning in 2011.
