Style Star: Actress Tika Sumpter
Actress, Tika Sumpter, possesses a fashion sense that is as HOT as her resume is turning out to be!
Some may believe she should quit her day job, but she keeps snagging amazing roles! If you’re into daytime soap operas, then you may remember her as Layla Williamson on One Life to Live. Last season, she had a recurring role on Gossip Girl as revenge-seeking Raina Thorpe and could also be found on BET’s The Game as Jenna Rice, the pretty model who captured Malik’s heart. As of right now, she is starring in a remake of the classic movie Sparkle (currently in production), so it’s clear that Sumpter must be doing something right.
Whether you prefer her as a model or an actress, one fact everyone should be able to agree on is that this girl can wear some clothes! She also dresses for real women. Some stars wear ensembles that are only fitting for Hollywood types (and Hollywood-type money). Yet, Tika’s outfits are so versatile, there’s something for everyone to be inspired by and to add to their closet. As a signature, her shapely figure loves to showoff high hemlines, body-hugging garments and loads of color! Not to mention, her gorgeous complexion always looks pristine and her makeup stays flawless! Peep our favorite looks rocked by the stylish star and get inspired!
Grown and Sassy
Tika shines in this Alice + Olivia Coastal Sequin Dress! Gold metallic pumps with a pointed-toe finish the look. She takes a break from her bone straight hair and dons a curly ‘do that is very romantic. She always looks red carpet ready! Gorg!
Ms. Sumpter proves that you can leave something to the imagination and still look stylish and fashion-forward! Covered in Rebecca Taylor from head-to-toe she owns this outfit. A pink and blue leopard print dress worn with a cream blazer keep the look modern. She receives bonus points for incorporating that trendy suede floppy hat into the look. Hot Mama!
Those bright red pants and sheer chiffon shirt are right on trend! Classic black peep-toe pumps, a small clutch and minimal jewelry compliment her look very well. Here, Tika’s frame and pretty face are the main focus…as they should be!
All-over color? Yes, please! The actress takes a risk with this hot pink silk dress by Myne. Those Charlotte Olympia “Dolly” pumps are chic with that pop of gold on the sole. Finally, a thin belt and a chunky bracelet add just enough interest to the outfit. The draped effect of the dress is a nice break from her form-fitting mode of operation. The dress glides over her body seamlessly! Move over Molly Ringwald, Tika’s the new chick that’s “Pretty in Pink.”
Rocking this mixed-print maxi dress by Tracey Reese makes me feel like Tika is a gal after my own heart and style! Sticking with neutrals and varying shades of the same color – in this case blue – is the key for beginners of mixing prints. Nude peep-toe pumps complete the ensemble. Natural looking curls and a berry lip are refreshing and don’t compete with her dress for attention (which is a good thing)!
This dress is doing the most! It has a suit – complete with red tie – printed on it. As if that wasn’t enough, the designer rolled up the sleeves and added sequins all-over. It reminds me of comic book art, yet, I think that’s what I love about it. A bright pink clutch and black strappy shoes are an interesting addition. Fan of this look or not, we all have to giver her credit for trying something new. Her long side braid and makeup are undeniably cute as well. Who doesn’t love a risk taker?
You can tell in the second photo just how much fun Tika is having in this look. This outfit is perfect to illustrate a playful, edgy mode. It’s not everyday you see a cropped orange leather jacket and black harem pants worn as one. Yet and still, this works! Those structured leopard heels bring everything together. Tika, as Missy Ellioitt would say, is “funky fresh, dressed to impress, ready to party!”
Tika takes the bandage dress to new lengths with this bright fuchsia Hervé Léger bandage gown. This bad boy shows off her curves extremely well and the only accessories she needs are the small studs in her ears and that clutch. She pulls her hair back to reveal that beautiful face, cleaning it up with a braid on the crown of her head. Sculpted eyebrows, dark lashes, orange blush and matching fuchsia lipstick only enhance her features. “Glamourous” is an understatement.
White hot! This Alive + Oliva dress is brought to life by Sumpter. The frilly number with scalloped edges is super cute, and the tulle straps hold everything together. Her long, lean legs take center stage and the look is grounded with pointy metallic heels.
Here, Tika is the date of Jason Derulo for the 2011 Teen Choice Awards. She also played his love interest in the music video for, “It Girl.” The coral and silver bandage dress is very pretty with its short sleeves and design. Dark purple pumps and a satin purple bag are the icing on the cake. Her eyes are played up by the dark smoky shadow surrounding them. The rest of her makeup is pretty and soft, not too over the top. Jason Derulo’s suit proves that the metallic trend isn’t just for girls (not that it’s necessarily right on guys…). Regardless, it’s Tika who shines and proves why she deserves the title of “It Girl.”
