When it comes to losing weight, stepping on the scale can either make you feel incredibly empowered and proud or disappointed and ready to throw in the towel. For every day that the scale goes down, there are those days where it goes up slightly, or sometimes just as bad, stays in the same place signaling a plateau. When you know you’re making progress and putting in the work, the last thing you need is any type of negativity that leaves you feeling as though you’re not doing enough and won’t reach that goal. So how many times in a month do you step on the scale enough to stay informed, but not enough to be obsessed with the number you see?

For mother of two and TV star Tamera Mowry-Housley, it’s once a week. She’s given birth to two children in the last five years and admits that on the road to get to her goal size and peel off the baby weight, she had to back away from the scale. Still, as she shared on the October 18 episode of The Real, she believes that when she knows where she’s at, she stays on track better with her eating and fitness.

“I think for me I tried to you know, when I started losing the baby weight; I had to find a balance ‘cause I would weigh myself every single day,” the 39-year-old said. “And I would get discouraged because some days you know, your water weight, you may gain like two pounds, you fluctuate up to like five pounds. So for me, it’s all about balance because if I didn’t weigh myself I would actually start gaining a little bit more, so I have to see that number to keep me on track. So I weigh myself once a week ‘cause I still want to lose maybe five to seven pounds. So if I see that, if I see what I have to work towards it’ll just keep me motivated. So I weigh myself one, one time a week in the morning at the same exact time. And it helps me, it helps me stay on track.”

Interesting enough though, recent studies have found that weighing yourself daily can actually help people lose the weight and keep it off. However, everyone is different, and what motivates some can hurt others. Know which side you fall on and get on the scale accordingly, folks.
