Cassie And 9 Other Women Who Say They Don’t Need To Get Married
In a new interview with Ebro in the Morning, 31-year-old actress and singer Cassie was asked about people who question when and if her long-term boyfriend, Diddy, will marry her. She said they don’t operate like most couples, so marriage is not something they both are seeing as a necessity — at least right now.

“We have a certain type of relationship and it just works the way it is,” she said. And when asked if she believes if marriage is for everyone, the beauty said, “No. Absolutely not.”
“I believe in marriage if it’s with the right situation, but I feel like, I’ve seen a lot of people get married and break up in the time that I’ve been in my relationship,” she said. “I feel like you can’t really put a tag on it. Everybody looks at marriage as something very solid and important, but we’ve got a solid relationship.”
That’s not to say that Cassie doesn’t believe in marriage at all. However, if she were married, she does think it is something that could stifle her opportunities.
“My lifestyle is so different from everyone else’s that I don’t know if marriage would be conducive to me sitting here with you right now and me having my own stuff,” the singer said. “But I do believe in marriage. I do believe in love.”
She’s not the first star to say that marriage isn’t necessarily in the cards for them. Whether they’ve said they’re not looking to be married anytime soon or emphatically said it’s not for them, see nine other stars who have said they don’t need to get married.

“We would not have stayed together, because marriage requires a different way of being in this world,” the 63-year-old said about the idea of marrying long-term love Stedman Graham. “His interpretation of what it means to be a husband and what it would mean for me to be a wife would have been pretty traditional, and I would not have been able to fit into that.”

“For some women, that’s what they wanna do in life: They want to be a devoted mother and wife. I’m a devoted auntie and entertainer,” the 47-year-old told The Cut. “Sometimes it’s challenging because people don’t believe me, and I have to tell them, ‘no, I’m fine. I’m okay.’ It’s not the end of the world because every woman is not married. That doesn’t define every woman. I enjoy children and I’m not anti-marriage.”

“I was able to finally stand up and say, ‘I don’t want to get married.’ At all,” Rhimes, 47, told Oprah. “I said that out loud. I said it to my family. I said it to my friends. I said it to anybody who asked. It’s never been a dream of mine.”
Brandy told the ladies of The Real that she doesn’t see marriage in her future.
“Girl, I don’t want to go down that road,” she said. “I know I don’t want to…self-love is great right now.”
“We already have what’s essential, you know? We have a union, a love for each other, and a baby,” the 40-year-old told Glam about her relationship with European football star Gerard Piqué. “I think that those aspects of our relationship are already established, and marriage is not going to change them. But if I’m ever going to get married, he’s the one.”
“I’m much happier on my own. I can spend as much time with somebody as I want to spend, but I’m not looking to be with somebody forever or live with someone,” the 61-year-old said. She’s been married three times so she knows what she’s talking about. “I don’t want somebody in my house.”
“At this point, I’m not looking. He has to find his way to me,” the 47-year-old Oscar winner said in 2013. “I’m totally fine with not being married or a mom right now. There was a time when that kind of stuff depressed me, but the universe had other things in store.”
She might be expecting her first child now, but that doesn’t mean marriage is in the cards for the 38-year-old actress and writer.
“I loved my parents’ relationship. The way my father was with my mother when she was dying was so moving. It was such devotion. I don’t know that that will happen for me, but I like it,” she told Good Housekeeping in 2015. “I don’t need marriage. I don’t need anyone to take care of all my needs and desires. I can take care of them myself now.”
In 2011, the 43-year-old mother of two said there was something about marriage these days that doesn’t appeal to her.
“I’m not like anti-marriage or the institution, like for other people. And I love the idea of a union — that’s all very beautiful. But I think, you know, it’s a very old fashioned, archaic kind of thing. We did it for land originally. How unromantic is that?” she said.
“I actually think it’s really sexy to be with someone in your fifties and sixties and be like, ‘That’s my boyfriend,'” Mendes continued. “I think husband and wife is just… very unsexy.”
