While showcasing her new album, Trip, during an “interactive artistic exhibition unveiling Jhene’s M.A.P.” according to Getty (we think that means it was a listening party?), Jhene Aiko tried to speak to guests about her project. Unfortunately though, attendees were doing more talking than listening, and her boyfriend, rapper Big Sean, was having none of that.

He took the microphone and pretty much told everyone to shut their pieholes:

One could say he was a little vulgar, but for the most part, the reception to his response has been a standing ovation. We could all use someone in our corner who is ready to check any disrespect aimed at us. And it’s especially refreshing to see men who go out of their way to defend the women they love (especially when they’re living right, too — more on that later). Aside from Big Sean, check out other Black men who are quick to get folks in order for their significant others.

Barack Obama

When he was running for president, seeking the nomination for the Democratic Party in 2008, Barack Obama called out members of the GOP, saying, “these folks should lay off my wife” in their attempts to take aim at Michelle and her patriotism.

“The GOP, should I be the nominee, I think can say whatever they want to say about me, my track record,” he said. “I’ve been in public life for 20 years. I expect them to pore through everything that I’ve said, every utterance, every statement. And to paint it in the most undesirable light possible. That’s what they do. But I do want to say this to the GOP. If they think that they’re going to try to make Michelle an issue in this campaign, they should be careful. Because that I find unacceptable.”

Steph Curry

Whether she’s being criticized for critiquing the style choices of other women or for saying the NBA Finals are “rigged” when the Warriors were losing to the Cavaliers in 2016, Steph Curry has wife Ayesha’s back.

“I encourage her to do her thing, to — to always speak her mind,” he told Good Morning America. “Like, never — never, you know, muffle any of that.”

Jay Z

Jay Z rarely steers away from his usual calm demeanor when out and about. But when he was out with Beyoncé last year and a fan got way too close, he had to get the guy together:

DeVon Franklin

Remember that time DeVon Franklin and Meagan Good spoke at an event for their book, The Wait, and a woman in the audience asked Good if she was going to finally “cover up“? Yeah, Franklin wasn’t having it.

“Wait a minute. Wait a minute. No, no, no, no, no. Uh unh. Uh unh. No. That is not what we’re here for,” he said emphatically in response. “She’s not going to cover up. She gon’ wear what she wants to wear in the name of Jesus. Amen? Amen. She’s going to wear what she wants to wear in the name of Jesus. Yes she will. Yes she will. Yes she will. Absolutely. God bless you.”

21 Savage

Sure, most would believe the 24-year-old rapper’s relationship with Amber Rose hasn’t gone on long enough for him to feel especially protective, but he’s made it clear that if you come at her incorrectly, he’s going to come for you — whoever you are.

“We just been kicking it, man. She’s a real cool woman. She treat me like a king, so it is what it is,” Savage said on Real 92.3. “And no disrespect will be tolerated at all. Keep your mouth closed, no hoes, no b—hes, no nothing. Because I’m pulling up on God.”

Swizz Beatz

When Alicia Keys really started stepping out without makeup, not everyone was crazy about the idea. But those who tried to publicly criticize the singer on social media over her pledge to wear as little makeup as possible ran the risk of having to go head to head with her husband, Swizz Beatz.

“Y’all gotta think about that. This is deep,” he said in an Instagram video. “Somebody’s sitting at home mad, because somebody didn’t wear makeup on their face… not your face, but they didn’t put makeup on their face, because they just didn’t feel like wearing makeup. But you’re mad because that person didn’t put makeup to please you? What sh-t is this?”

Jay Tucker

When some overzealous fans tried to approach actress Niecy Nash for a picture during last year’s Emmys, the actress told Conan O’Brien that her husband, Jay Tucker, had to get them all the way together.

Iman Shumpert

When Teyana Taylor appeared on The Wendy Williams Show last year and was asked about her ex Brandon Jennings and her former friend/his baby mama Tae Heckard, she refused to talk about them, as she was in a much happier place with husband Iman Shumpert. It was a stark contrast to the interview she did years ago venting about the dramatic end to that relationship. But her choice to take the high road and not clear the air didn’t sit well with Jennings, who put her blast in a series of tweets, including this one:

In response, a day later, Shumpert went ahead and posted a picture of his beautiful family:

T.I.

T.I. is interesting. While he can disrespect Tiny in whatever ways he likes, he won’t stand for anyone else coming at her in such a manner. Like the time he expressed quite a bit of rage and threatened rapper Azealia Banks after she made some comments about Tiny’s ability to read and her looks:

“U musty-mouthed-thot-bot-bad-body-syphilis-lipped-rectum-vomit-unimportant-ugggggly-monstrosity-of-a-maggot-a– BIIIIIIII—HHHH!!!!!!” he wrote. “If u speak ill of my family again….. I WILL END YOU!!!!!! #OnPHIL #OnDOE #NoBuuulllsh-t people fall down stairs daily…. U better watch yo step,u ungly-a– Gremlin-baby #nerveofdisCretin #f–kouttahea”

Yikes…

Kevin Hart

When Kevin Hart was out here going hard for his “rib,” that is, Eniko, he consistently defended his then-wife against his haters.

“Message to all of the angry women that leave negative comments on her page….Your life must truly suck if someone else’s happiness bothers you,” he wrote. “The question that all of you negative unhappy put your page on private b—hes should all ask yourselves is while you’re wrecking your brain worrying about us…ARE WE WORRYING ABOUT YOU????? The answer is not even a little bit. Now have a blessed negative thinking day….P.S. I love chicken nuggets…ok I’m done.”

So much for that “happiness,” though…
