It’s safe to say Issa Rae’s awkward stage is over. While we appreciate the relatable missteps of her character on Insecure, in real life, the actress, writer, director, and producer is a picture perfect example of what you can achieve if you follow your dreams.

Fresh on the heels of wrapping a second successful season of her hit HBO show, CoverGirl has announced that Issa is their newest cover girl. The 32-year-old shared the news on Instagram this morning, reflecting on what she describes as a full-circle moment.

“I remember being an awkward black girl in high school, reading the pages of my favorite magazines, casually flipping through @COVERGIRL ads, singing their slogan in my head,” she wrote. “Never EVER in my life did I imagine I’d be one. I am SO honored and SO excited for what’s to come.”

CoverGirl backed up her sentiment on their official Instagram page, letting Issa know she is “everything” (complete with the Black girl clap).

CoverGirl is to truly be applauded for this move, which heightens the visibility of Black womens’ diverse beauty and reminds young girls of color they can truly be anything they want to be. We’re just as excited as Issa to see what’s to come. Congrats!
