The Anatomy of a Mean Girl: Part Good & Part Bad

October 29th, 2011 - By madamenoire

Last week we discussed the definition of a mean girl, which basically means loving yourself first before any relationship. Being a ‘Mean Girl’ is not to be taken literally; a ‘Mean Girl’ is a mindset and lifestyle. The moment we start recognizing what’s acceptable, what makes US happy in a relationship and start acting on it in an assertive way, people misconstrue it as being “mean” or “playing games. Why would putting your happiness above all else be “playing games” with anyone?  Don’t YOU deserve to be number one? Don’t Y-O-U deserve to be catered to?

If you think this way of behaving is just too mean for you to operate in, so be it. Live your life and operate in the manner in which you’ve been doing for so long if it works for you. But if you’re still single, maybe there’s some truth to this…There are some women who handle their business in the relationship department come hell or high water, whether you call it mean, bitchy or callous.  It gets the point across to the world and those therein that they come first!

These women remain happily dating, in-love, married and doing so without letting the men in their lives walk over them or anyone dictate them. Do what works for Y-O-U, but these are the makings of a Mean Girl….

In this column we will break down the anatomy of a mean girl based on their characteristics as it relates to Celebrity Women…

I agree! Her twitter says barbie so clearly she wants to be a skinny white chick, she needs to do some soul searching

  • Hallow

Exactly! It's so sad that we even still have people like this makeba writer who actually think these women are role models! Especially when we now have the wonderful and great Michele Obama! Black women already hAve a bad rep as being angry and mean and now your reinforcing it with this mess. I know your probably use to writing songs of little substance but when it comes to this we want substance not superficial bullcrap. If these are your idols I'll be sure not to read another post of yours

If I were like most of the women on this list, I would not like myself nor would I feel comfortable looking at my reflection…this article is poor taste, not what I want my daughter to be.

None of these people are married. Kim does not count her marriage was a spectacle AND how about she hasn't even been married a year yet. As a single woman I would not want to model my life or love life after these women. Money does not keep you warm at night.

  • Really tho?

Are you serious with this article? These are not women I wanna aspire to be I am assertive and a no nonsense type of woman and I can’t relate to any of them. These women are horrible role models for young women. The writer needs to go back to the drawing board with your whole thought process on this subject.

Some of these self-proclaimed "Mean Girls"ought to take a listen to Syleena and Tweet angry girl song. You have made it hard for the next woman to find her prince charming because of what you did to an ex boyfriend who may not have been everything to you.

    Amen

This woman's style of writing is very harsh. This is the second thing she,s written that has pissed me off. And why would she use Angelina has an example when she stole someone's husband? This chick sounds superficial as hell, where are your morals? Sounds like your philosophy is take what you want, how you want it and as long as YOU are happy forget everyone else around, sounds pretty cut throat to me, I'd sure hate to be this chicks friend

It's interesting to notice that most of the women on this list aren't black. I'm not saying that we can't get away with things that other women do, but…you know what? Yes I am! We can't play the same way other races of women do because it is not the same game for many of us.

There was only one black woman on the list: Shaunie! She couldn't pull the same mess that Evelyn, Angie or Kim did because we would all be looking at her like an opportunistic ho. Shaunie couldn't act like them and be where she is. That's just the truth.

Look at Laurence Fishburne's daughter! She tried to get famous the way Kim Kardashian did, but where is she now? And I bet you she's not dating high-profile athLike Angie, Alicia Keys unapologetically got involved with a married man…and both continue to deny the reality of how their relationships started…as jumpoffs! Sure they do wonderful things as humanitarians, but we still see Alicia as a mistresses who got an upgrade. Meanwhile we're applauding Angie and her mean girl status.

      *high-profile athletes.

  • Lovely One

The only person I respect on that list is Shaunie. The writer needs to go back to the drawing board & rethink this whole idea.

Sooo….I'm wondering…what is appealing about having a foul attitude, exposing your body, or exploiting others for your personal gain? There doesn't have to be a "mean" bone in your body to find a good man. If you want to find a lasting relationship, BE YOURSELF. Develop your talents, love yourself, become successful, and find someone who will complement you. Be willing to contribute, just as you are expecting a man to contribute to the relationship too.

Whoever writes this is amazing totally agree. I have this same attitude which is why all my friends are like aw I want a man like yours I tell them its not about the man its about the woman. Guys respect women who know their own mind, are assertive not rude but still caring and genuine.
