Malia Obama’s 30-Year-Old Stalker Popped Up At Her Internship In NYC To Propose Marriage

After deciding to take a year off following her graduation from Sidwell Friends School in D.C., Malia Obama picked up a high-profile internship with the Weinstein Co., which she started in New York City in February. She was hoping to dip her toe into the TV and film world, interning for a third time (she did work on Halle Berry’s defunct series Extant and Lena Dunham’s Girls prior) before heading to Harvard in the fall. It had been business as usual for the 18-year-old as she got in her behind-the-scenes experience — that is until earlier this month.

On April 10, a 30-year-old man named Jair Nilton Cardoso actually found his way into one of the offices Obama reports to, and proceeded to hold up a sign and yell out for her hand in marriage. According to the New York Daily News, the Secret Service was present, and they promptly escorted the man off of the premises.

But that didn’t stop Cardoso from showing up at the other office she works at in the city two days later. He was removed once again. From there, the Secret Service realized they had a problem.

According to TMZ, they concluded that Cardoso was a man who fit the description of an individual who tried to access the White House on a few different occasions while the Obamas still resided there. So, they made a visit to Cardoso’s home in Brooklyn on April 13 and “interviewed” him. They decided that he had psychiatric issues and took him to a hospital in Brooklyn for an evaluation. According to the Daily News, a few days later, Cardoso was reported to the police. Sources have said that because Secret Service was with her, Obama didn’t want to make a big fuss over the incidents. As of right now though, it’s reported that police are deciding whether or not Cardoso, who has no prior criminal record in the city, will face stalking or harassment charges.
