Alabama Woman Jumps Out Of Trunk To Avoid Kidnapping
As sad as it is, I often think, I can’t let anything happen to me when I’m out in the street. I can’t do anything that might put me in the presence of police officers because we all know how a turn signal turned into a tragedy for Sandra Bland. I can’t get raped because who knows if law enforcement will do everything in their power to prosecute my rapist. And I certainly can’t turn up missing because Lord knows this country doesn’t consider missing Black women a priority.
A woman in Birmingham, Alabama nearly found herself in the latter situation but thankfully, her quick wit and resolve under pressure, prevented her story from ending as tragically as it could have.
Instead of ending up in the news for an entirely different reason, this Alabama woman is being recorded as the hero of her own story for escaping a kidnapper by jumping out of the trunk of a moving car.
According to ABC, the unidentified, 25-year-old woman told police that she was walking to her apartment when a man approached her with a gun, demanding money. When she told him she did not have any money, the man forced her into the trunk of a car.
Afterward, the man drove to a gas station and convenience store. Store clerks reported that the man went into the store after he couldn’t withdrawal money from the ATM.
After the man got back in the car, the woman was able to open the trunk and escape just as the vehicle was starting to pull away. She ran inside the convenience store and called 911.
The woman suffered minor injuries when she jumped out of the car. Police are still searching for the man and are circulating this image of him from the surveillance footage.’
