National Treasure Virginia McLaurin Celebrates Her 108th Birthday With The Harlem Globetrotters

March 14, 2017  |

After Virginia McLaurin danced with the former first couple and into our hearts, I know I’ve thought of her since then and wondered how she’s doing, what’s she been up to. Well, as you might assume, she’s showing no signs of slowing down.

Days after she danced with the Obamas, she celebrated her 107th birthday with the Harlem Globetrotters.

McLaurin must have really enjoyed herself because she rung in her 108th birthday in the same way, this time at the LAMB Public Charter School in Washington, D.C.

While the male players assisted her in spinning the ball on the tip of her finger, McLaurin made note of meeting the first female Globetrotter Hoops Green.

She said, “It’s beautiful for them to play together. When I came along, you couldn’t play with boys even in school.”

In honor of McLaurin’s birthday, the Globetrotters donated 108 tickets in McLaurin’s name for underprivileged youth in Washington, D.C. The Globetrotters will play on Saturday at the Verizon Center in D.C. at 2 and 7 p.m.

Happy Birthday to Ms. McLaurin! We wish her many more to come.
