Eight Things You Shouldn’t Buy On-Line

October 23rd, 2011 - By Toya Sharee

No complaining customers, sassy salespeople and not wasting a drop of your gas are some of the conveniences that on-line shopping can offer. However, there are just some things that are better bought in person.  Sometimes a 300 X 225 photo and brief description that’s been tailored to sound its best is not enough.

Here are a few items that should never be purchased with a click of a button…

Ok, Im at the first item they say never buy online and I disagree. I don’t think its something anyone can do, but buying a car online is not that difficult or ‘dangerous’. But face it, you really need to know your stuff with cars to pull this off well and not get ripped off. I bought an antique ford off ebay back in 2004. I don’t regret it, still have the car and live goes on. But I am a gearhead, knew what I was looking at (condition wise, model variances for what I was looking for, etc etc), knew what to ask from sheer common sense being a gearhead and had no surprises when I got the car. The seller and I actually became friends and still are to this day.

I agree with the post. Some things you should try before you buy and you can’t really do that ordering online.

Recent Studies have shown that we as African Americans especially a single black woman , We will pay much more for a Car in any state in this country than our white counterparts. So test drive and then go home to negotiate over phone and by fax to get best deal. It’s a shame we have to hide to get the best deals, but presently it is what it is.

I totally disagree w this post, and I doubt the author shops online for much. I've been online shopping for 20 years, and every year the selection of items and vendors gets better. Right now I can't get out much, and buy almost everything online. You must us prudence, just as with any purchase, and read the return policy b4 you order. Also, look for reviews and customer comments from others that have used the site. I particularly disagree with post of Rx's, since it was pretty fact free. Fact: All major drugstore chains, Walmart, Kmart, even Kroger have an online pharmacy. It's a great way to compare prices if you're paying out of pocket. Drug prices can vary by as much as 30% between retailers. If you want the real scoop on online shopping, check out the tips and tricks from a tech site. This post was fairly useless.

Really, you buy clothes at stores you can visit in person? How are you gonna visit Zappos or Amazon in person? Anyway, I shop at several reputable websites for clothes and I have had zero problems. Come on now. Its just a matter of doing research.

Dear Madame Noire editors and Miss Toya: Idiots usually don't go online to READ, especially those that have actually purchased a car on the Internet without viewing it in person and having someone look under the hood. Your article should have been titled "Seven things you shouldn't buy online." (But actually since there are probably two other things I think could have been left off, you should have stopped at five.) And why would you use "Ph.D." instead of "M.D."? I have been casually following your website for a year now and thought it might be the modern, hip and improved web-based Essence. I think I am wrong…………caution: don't try and dumb-down smart, intelligent black women otherwise you will lose them as your readers, at least this one.

I wouldn't buy jeans or pant bottoms. It's best to get that from inside the store.

It looks to me that we shouldn’t do any on-line shopping by looking at this list.
