#BarackIsBae: 10 Photos Of Barack Obama, The Only President We Recognize Today
Aside from giving millions of Americans a long weekend, usually we don’t make much of a fuss when it comes to President’s Day. But, given the craziness of the current administration, President’s Day 2017 is sort of bumming us out. We long for the days when a charismatic senator charmed the pants off of us and made our world a better place. Though Barack and Michelle Obama are firmly planted in civilian life, that doesn’t mean that we can’t take a stroll down memory lane to relive some of our favorite Barack moments.
Barack Rides Those Waves
We couldn’t have asked for a better first photo of former President Barack Obama enjoying his life outside the Oval Office than the above image of him kitesurfing. According to a blog post from Sir Richard Branson, Barack told him that during his eight years in office he wasn’t allowed to surf since it was considered too dangerous. Branson then promised Barack that if he learned to kitesurf, Branson would learn to foilboard and the two would have a contest to see who could stay up the longest. I think you can guess who won.
Those Quiet Moments
To most, this picture might not be all that special, but to us it perfectly sums up what made President Barack and FLOTUS Michelle Obama so special. They were genuinely normal people, who loved each other and those around them. They never let the pressures of their positions take away from what made them so easy to relate to and beloved by millions of people.
Man’s Best Friend
Barack Obama was one of the most photogenic presidents in our history. Not only because he is one good-looking man (#BarackisBae), but because he allowed official White House photographer Pete Souza to capture those especially candid and cute moments that let us see the human side of our commander-in-chief. This image shows Barack’s first meeting with his new pup Bo as the two run down a White House corridor.

When Essence Magazine released its stunning photo essay and thoughtful piece featuring Barack and Michelle Obama canoodling in the White House, our heads pretty much exploded. People may have said that Kim Kardashian broke the internet with her Paper cover, but that was before they got a look at these two crazy kids in love. Barack and Michelle perfectly epitomized relationship goals in a way that was so stunning, so classy and yet with a hint of presidential-style sexy.
Barack and Michelle made a dream come true for 106-year-old Virginia McLaurin. In February 2016, the White House was informed of all the work McLaurin had done through the years in the D.C. area. So in celebration of Black History Month, McLaurin was invited to meet Barack and Michelle. In true Obama fashion, the meeting was fun and light-hearted, with a mini-dance party ensuing.
The Boy and Barack
Without question one of the most iconic photographs ever taken of President Barack Obama was from back in 2012 when he met Jacob Philadelphia, the son of a Marine veteran who was leaving the White House staff. The five-year-old asked if Barack’s hair was just like his. That’s when the president lowered his head and implored the boy to touch it. “Yes, it does feel the same,” Jacob said. It was a moment that symbolized progress and hope for generations to come.
It is clear that Barack Obama loves his family more than anything and his two daughters are the apples of his eye. So when snowageddon piled on Washington D.C., the Obama family took full advantage to have a little fun. Pete Souza captured this awesome moment of Barack, Sasha and Malia getting in on some snow fight action in the Rose Garden.
The Young Pope
Halloween at the White House during the Obama administration was quite the display of absolutely adorable kids in creative costumes. But by far our favorite was Barack’s meeting with the “little Pope” above.
A Quick Check-up
Barack loves the kids. Throughout his presidency he made a point of interacting with young people in ways that not only inspired them, but also made them feel as if Barack was someone they could relate to and have fun with. Case in point: This image of him letting a Powell Elementary student pretend to be a doctor and listen to his heartbeat.
And One For The Road
This President’s Day we are not going to focus on the disaster that has infiltrated 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, but instead reminiscence on the good ol’ days. We miss you Barack, but we hope you are thoroughly enjoying a more normal life these days. Don’t be a stranger and please come back and visit us soon. XOXO, your friends at MadameNoire.
