Who Run The World? The Top 10 Best Selling Girl Groups Of All Time

Over and again we’ve heard girls rule the world. Over the years girls have ruled the music world. The list of best-selling girl groups of all time, is dominated by women of color. The beginnings of artists like Beyonce, Diana Ross and Scary Spice were seeds planted within a trio, quartet or quintet. Here’s the top ten list of the girls who out-sold some of the most famous male competition:

In 1990, Sisters With Voices came together to raise a joyful noise before the Lord in the world of Gospel. SWV soon changed direction and in a short time rose to become one of the most successful R&B groups of that decade. Together Cheryl Gamble, Tamara Johnson, and Leanne Lyons produced multiple hits  like “Weak”, and “Right Here/Human Nature.”  The New York based trio went on to sell 15 million records.

    exactly the closest Destiny’s Child ever came to Diamond was 8x platinum with Writtings On The Wall granted Diamond awards were introduced in 1998 Shania Twain has 3 Britney Spears Celine Dion Madonna Mariah Carey  Whitney Houston & The Dixie Chicks all have two oh I’m forgetting The Eagles have 3 diamond albums & the beatles have 4 as in The White Album Red 1962-1966 Blue 1967-1970 and 1 the Eagles 3 are Greatest hits 71-75 at 29x platinum Hotel California at 16x platinum and Greatest hits Vol 2 at 11x platinum though techincially they should have 4 Hell Freezes Over has sold 9.6 million since it’s 1994 release and technically Whitney Houston should have 3 BodyGuard soundtrack 17x platinum Whitney Houston 13x platinum and her 2nd Album Whitney should be 10x Platinum when her Catalog is updated

    It is hilarious that the Spice Girls have sold 75million records and that they’re the number#1 girl group! But I can’t even front, I was a fan as a teen and went to see their movie, “Spice World.”

    As a teen I was a Destiny’s Child fanatic, big time but Envogue is probably my fav group out of these(now that I’m not a teen and can think objectively. lol.). At the same time, I loved Salt N Peppa & SWV and TLC. Who didn’t love those groups? TLC had their own swag. The 90′s era was the last of groups without gimmicks.

       The Supremes are the trailblazing group that most girl groups tried to emulate. They’re basically untouchable.

    Destiny’s Child never went Diamond ANYTHING in the United States. In fact the ONLY girl group To date to have a diamond selling album in the US is TLC. Get your facts straight

    TLC is the only r&b girl group in history to have a diamond album
    their album “crazysexycool” sold 11.3 million in America
    and 15 million worldwide
    TLC FOREVER :)

      The Writing’s On The Wall sold 12 million worldwide. But overall, I do think TLC has sold a few million more albums than destiny’s Child.

    Uhm sorry this article is incorrect. Destiny’s child neither beyonce has a diamond album that means one album has sold over the 10 mili mark. Not all albums combined the only black people I can remember and I am sure there are a few more is Micheal Jackson, Outcast, Mariah…. You cannot combine album sales and say diamond I used to like this site but it seems when its related to beyonce the information gets exaggerated.

       Um, “The Writing’s On The Wall,” actually is Destiny’s Child best selling album and did go diamond. That was their second album with the most hits, “Bills, Bills, Bills,” “Jumping Jumping,” “Say My Name,” etc.
