Jamie Foxx’s Dating Advice To His Daughters? “Don’t Take No Back Seat To Nobody”
It’s pretty common these days for people to say that when it comes to relationships, modern-day women don’t “let a man be a man.” They like to say that independent women are shooting themselves in the foot in terms of their dating prospects with high standards, and that letting a man lead in a relationship, especially in a marriage, is the best thing for both parties.
But as a father of two daughters who are vastly different ages (Corinne was born in 1994, Annalise in 2009), Jamie Foxx doesn’t want either one of his children to dim their light to let a man shine.
“I’m not saying he got to be no softie, I don’t want that. But [he can’t be] afraid of you going to get your career,” Foxx told PEOPLE at the Los Angeles premiere of his film, Sleepless. “Don’t take no back seat to nobody. If you walk in with somebody that you take a back seat to, I’m going to check you first and then it’s about him.”
It’s a message he drives home to both of his daughters, especially Corinne, a 20-something who is actively dating.
“She takes that with her so that when she does go out and she finds the guy that she’s with now, they understand that and uplift each other,” the actor shared.
Foxx said that as a protective parent, the happiness and success of his daughters is his main priority.
“It’s like papa bear; you have to protect,” Foxx said while also chatting with Variety at the premiere. “What I always tell my daughters is that if you select a guy, make sure that what you like, he is behind you. That doesn’t intimidate him.”
