Video of the Day: Harry Belafonte: Hermain Cain is “denied intelligence”

October 11th, 2011 - By Veronica Wells

In an interview with Joy Behar, actor, singer and Civil Rights activist, Harry Belafonte, sat down to discuss his new book, “My Song”. During the interview Behar also mentioned Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain. After Mr. Belafonte stopped pretending like he didn’t know who Cain was, he called him a bad apple among other things. Take a look at a clip of the interview, which will air in its entirety Friday on CNN.

Cain has been made aware of what Belafonte had to say and he responded in writing to The Hill newspaper.

“As far as Harry Belafonte’s comment, look, I left the Democratic plantation a long time ago. And all that they try to do when someone like me — and I’m not the only black person out there that shares these conservative views – the only tactic that they have to try and intimidate me and shut me up is to call me names, and this sort of thing. It just simply won’t work.”

What do you think is Belafonte right about Mr. Cain?

Something is OFF when it comes to Herman Cain… He’s too much of a Sambo for me to even take him seriously, Republican or not… Nothing but a Clarence Uncle Thomas doppleganger.

Cain may be many things, but he certainly doesn't "lack intelligence." The man has a degree in mathematics from Morehouse and a masters in computer science from Purdue. How many degrees does Belafonte have? A certificate in Calypso doesn't count.

ok first you underscore harry belafonte's opinion because he's a singer, then you follow up by saying "i guess as a black man you are not allowed to have your own opinion and thoughts." #FAIL

Harry has his opinion and you have yours deal with it. Thanks =)

Isn't Harry Belafonte a singer……I don't think that he can comment on ANYONE's intelligence…..I guess as a bm you are not allowed tohave your own opinion and thoughts. I thought bp fought for the right to think for themselves and not have to act like a 'proper negro' and know your place. But instead of wm telling bp what they can think and be it's the black police telling a grown bm what he has to think and believe….

A singer and activist who has been doing so probably longer then you have been alive. Obviously someone didn't do their homework. Though I so see your comment on conceiving your own political ideas, I don't agree with you undermining a man that fought so hard for black people.

Herman Cain isn't running for President. He's running for Vice-President, and he'll get it.

Should be a very interesting 2012.

    …Swaggered! James Swaggered!!
