October 9th, 2011 - By Grace N. Edwards

It’s been said that having skills in the kitchen can be the key to a man’s heart. I say, being able to cook well also keeps a woman healthy, wealthy and wise. Takeout is convenient, but it can definitely take a toll on your pockets. Not only is cooking your own meals a lot cheaper, it is often healthier. You know exactly what’s in your food and can avoid the fatty lard and shady chemicals that many restaurants add to their dishes.

Cooking is easy, however becoming a GOOD cook often requires a bit of time and effort.  If everything you prepare ends up burnt, raw or inedible, fear not! You’re not a lost cause. Even if you’re a kitchen’s worst nightmare, there are some simple steps you can take to improve your gastronomic IQ. Here are some suggestions that can transform you into a culinary queen….

Learn spices, herbs and seasoning. Learn their flavors and what they go well with. stop using lawrys for everything. Get fresh ingrediants. Dont over cook past or rice, you can't really mess up roasting meat. root veggies and throwing stuff in the oven is a great starting point. learn to make a rue and sauces to cover up mistakes like too much salt or dry meats

Yes Ladies.. You better do your homework if you think that you will ever be as good as me. I'm a former restaurant cook that will have you on the phone calling your grand momma for cooking advice. LOL!!!!!

These are actually some good tips, I graduated from JWU years ago but I’ m always taking new classes and trends to keep myself relevant. Totally agree with Community College classes, received my Dietary Certification from there. Also Food magazines to find other avenues for Culinary treats. Keep burnin’!!

Masturbate before cooking and wash your hands!!! Or better yet, have a quickie. This way you will be relaxed and decide to make a sandwich instead.

turn down the heat! when i first started cooking, i wondered why all of my food, no matter what i was cooking, always came out burnt, under cooked or both. turning down the stove from high to medium heat is simple, but can prevent tons of kitchen nightmares!
