The other week in the comments section under my “Love is the Opposite of Fear” post one of our readers asked a very poignant question. Usually I read the comments section and don’t respond. But it caught my attention and another one of our readers shared her curiosity. “A Black Woman” asked, “TO: The writer of this article about love, I’ve heard it many times: Love yourself. However, what does that mean exactly? How does one love himself or herself?”
Over here at Madame Noire we’re always talking about the importance of loving ourselves but the process of how to go about doing it can be a bit elusive. First let me begin by saying that I am not a therapist or even an expert in loving myself. I had to really reflect on this question and solicit the advice of my network to even begin to answer this question thoroughly, and this list is far from exhausted. We’re all plagued with doubts, insecurities and fears, even the most self assured person will find that loving themselves is not something you master in a matter of weeks. It’s a lifelong process. Here are some attitudes you can adopt that can help you along in the journey to loving yourself.
