Former Illini Football Player Charged with Rapes that Terrorized Campus
(Chicago Tribune) — The rapist was well-spoken, armed with a gun and usually wore a ski mask, and by the winter of 1995, he had terrorized the University of Illinois campus by stalking and assaulting a series of women. One, an art major, helped prepare a composite sketch of the man she said assaulted her. Police increased patrols and the university tightened security, hoping to catch a serial rapist believed to be responsible for at least five sexual assaults. Then the attacks ended, and for years the trail went cold. Now, thanks to modern technology and some old-fashioned detective work, authorities in Champaign-Urbana say they have the suspect in custody — a name that will be familiar to many Illini football fans.
