Even though Black women spend a whopping half a trillion dollars on haircare and weaves, it is still difficult to find experienced and good stylists that deal with textured hair. This is where Daria Burke and her new mobile app Trest step in. In fact, it claims to be the “first mobile app that helps women with textured hair find salons they can trust based on the recommendations of friends in their social networks.” Because it’s tapping into the vast network of social media, the app can find stylists almost anywhere in the globe.

“Trest is about making women’s lives easier,” said Burke, Trest Founder & CEO, in a press statement “The trial & error approach to finding a hair salon simply isn’t an option for women with textured hair. And there still isn’t an easy way to share recommendations with friends who have similar concerns.”

Here’s how it works: You select the city in which you’d like to find a salon, then you choose the “service” you want and your more specific “location.” A list of recommended salons within three miles of your location—starting with those vetted by friends in your social network (using the Facebook SDK for iOS). Once you pick a stylist, you can make an appointment request through the Trest Concierge and within one hour, you will receive an email confirmation.

Trest will launch late October/early November 2016 in select cities nationwide, including New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, and San Francisco and will at first feature nearly 60 salons and more than 60 stylists with new markets to roll out throughout 2016.

Burke is not new to the beauty industry. She has been a marketing and business strategy consultant for beauty, fashion, retail and e-commerce companies over the years. She also helped create hair care line, UNWASH, and served as the Director of Makeup Marketing for the Estée Lauder brand. She was one of the 10 founding team members of Rent the Runway, an online fashion start-up, and also has worked in brand management at L’Oreal USA on the Lancôme and Yves Saint Laurent Beaute brands.
