Woosah: The Eternal Benefits Of Me Time For Moms
I recently had a friend take part in an usually busy day with me. We had a huge project we were working on and, as a result, were running around like crazy trying to tie up loose ends and handle our business. Meanwhile, her hubby and son were at home hanging out, you know, doing what guys do. About mid-way through our day she reached over to show me a text she had just received from her son, “Mom, can you make me an appointment to get a haircut?” We both laughed as she expressed that her husband, who goes to the same barber, was sitting at home doing God knows what, but her son couldn’t ask him to call the barber, he had to call on mom.
And so, despite her hectic day and busy schedule, as any mom would, she called the barber and made the appointment. Moms are givers. We go to the extreme to ensure everyone in our family is taken care of and put everything and everybody first, above all—especially above ourselves. That said, it’s important to take a step back and take some time for yourself. Leaving the kiddos, hubby, dog and cares behind and fully indulging in an activity, day or even vacation, all by ourselves.
Sure, your family needs you, but they’ll also survive (and might even enjoy) some time away from you! And for those hesitant to skip out on the kids and spouse for a little R&R, perhaps you haven’t noted the benefits of me time. Allow us to fill you in.
Woosah: The Benefits Of Me Time
Time To Regroup – We could all use a few private moments to center ourselves and realign our energy.
With the craziness of our schedules, the demands of home and work and being at our kids’ beckoning call, regrouping allows us to bring everything back to the middle.
Get Back To You – What do you like? Crossfit? Salsa dancing? Spoken word? Take some time to rediscover yourself and your hobbies.
Whether you enroll in a class, or go it alone—just do it!
A Woosah Moment – You don’t really realize how drained or tired you are until you sit in silence for a few minutes.
With the constant mental stimulation of running errands and getting the kids from here to there every now and again it’s good to just take a moment to let it all out.
Indulge – So when’s the last time you’ve enjoyed an entire plate of food when your kids are around? Exactly.
Me time allows you to indulge—uninterrupted—in all of your various guilty pleasures! Eat, drink, sleep—do whatever you like for however long you’d like.
Get Your Happy Back – With the everyday stresses and worries that come with being a rock mom like yourself, it’s easy to slip into a routine and neglect the simple joys and pleasures in life.
Stop to smell the roses once in a while, you’ll be surprised how freeing it feels.
Once you’ve begun to schedule “me time” it won’t take much convincing to encourage you to make it a habit. Trust us, you’ll be glad you did.
