Sherri Shepherd On Life After Surrogate Situation: “I’m Really At Peace”
Sherri Shepherd has had a rough year, going through a public divorce from ex-husband Lamar Sally which also led to a child support battle over the couple’s child which was born by surrogate. Sherri didn’t say much during the battle, choosing to take the “high road” and refusing to “disparage anyone,” as she told The Grio last year. But after losing her appeal to the Supreme Court to relieve her from paying more than $4,000 per month in child support to Lamar — her payments remain permanent until the child turns 13 — the comedian and former talk show host is speaking out about her new lease on life.
“It feels good that I’m through that and done and able to just smile and just breathe,” Sherri told People. “Being able to have people in this business who were there for me, I don’t know if I could have made it without them.”
One of those people was friend Niecy Nash who, interestingly, first introduced Sherri to Lamar during a matchmaker party at her house.
“Me going through all my public stuff and painful stuff that nobody got to see on my Twitter rants or my Instagram posts, were when Niecy Nash was there holding me as I cried or when Kym Whitley was there for me,” Sherri explained.
Now with the pain of divorce behind her, Sherri is making new moves with her career. She’s starring in Jean of the Joneses on TV One come October 23 and also has a new comedy project with John Lithgow in the works for NBC in 2017. Sherri’s even got a new zip code.
“I moved back out to L.A. and said goodbye to my season in New York and at The View and back to what I love doing. I’m really at peace.”
We’re happy to hear that.
