They say if you slap lipstick on a pig it’s still a pig. I say if you slap a $1,500 price tag on a $5 pair of house slippers, it’s still a $5 pair of house slippers.

When my co-worker sent me a link to these Balenciaga Beaded Lace Slippers, I wasn’t sure what to make of it. My first thought was, “I hope she doesn’t think these shoes are cute ‘cuz they’re not.” My second thought was, “These slippers look like those ugly house shoes they sell at the Korean Hair stores in 27 different colors for like $5.” My third thought was, “Why are these slippers $1,545?”

Yes, One thousand five hundred and forty-five dollars. (I felt I needed to write it out like you do on a check to make sure you’re seeing the same amount I do.)

It was only after relaying the last two thoughts to my co-worker that I also realized these funny looking flats are sold out in three sizes. (Who is buying this overpriced sh-t?!) I then had to click the Twitter icon to see what message Barney’s came up with to entice women with far too much disposable income and far too little taste to buy these things, but refused to send the tweet when I saw the words “We Adore” as the suggested texts. We who?

Funny enough, I am not alone. When I searched the shoe title on Twitter, I noticed plenty other Black women had also peeped game.

So, just like Genean C. said, Imma leave this right here…along with this business lesson.
