With the presidential election nearing, many individuals are drawing their line in the sand and deciding on who they will cast their vote for. In particular, many celebrities have been endorsing candidates from Mary J. Blige to Pusha T, now LeBron James is standing behind Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton. On Sunday (Oct. 2), the NBA star wrote an op-ed in Business Insider, explaining why he’s endorsing her as the next president of the United States of America.

“When I look at this year’s presidential race, it’s clear which candidate believes the same thing,” he wrote. “The 31-year-old Akron, Ohio native who grew up poor with a single parent continued, “Only one person running truly understands the struggles of an Akron child born into poverty. And when I think about the kinds of policies and ideas the kids in my foundation need from our government, the choice is clear. That candidate is Hillary Clinton.”

James also compared his LeBron James Family Foundation, whose mission is to positively affect the lives of children and young adults through education and co-curricular educational, to that of Clinton’s own values, saying, “Like my foundation, Hillary has always been a champion for children and their futures. For over 40 years, she’s been working to improve public schools, expand access to health care, support children’s hospitals, and so much more.”

The superstar athlete went on to say that he believes Clinton will “build on the legacy” that President Barack Obama has already started these past eight years.
