Rihanna Teyana Taylor

While people spent late last week worrying about whether or not Iman Shumpert cheated on Teyana Taylor (the findings? Shumpert did slip up early in their relationship, they moved past it, and all is well in their world), what went under the radar was a positive turn of events involving Taylor that should have been celebrated. The 25-year-old was able to mend fences with Rihanna, and the proof is in the gift the Bajan bad girl sent Taylor recently:

Taylor shared the gift from Rihanna’s latest Puma collection on Instagram with the lovey-dovey caption, “Thanks for the dope a– gift Ri, I love them!! Gimme kiss!” The caption was followed by the kissing emoji and a heart.

The two used to be friendly when Rihanna dated Chris Brown. However, if you will recall, it was in 2013 that all hell broke loose between both ladies via social media.

It started when Taylor recorded video of herself singing Anita Baker’s “Caught Up in the Rapture.” Soon after, Rihanna posted a video of a hairstylist from her team wearing a curly wig and basecall cap, poorly singing the same exact song. It was seen as a jab at Taylor, so she responded. Both women ended up taking pretty strong shots at each other, and Rihanna’s friend Melissa Forde even jumped in. But things got really out of hand when Taylor made her Twitter banner an illustration of her fighting Rihanna — and used the leaked police image of the pop star’s face after being attacked by Chris Brown in 2009.

The drama caused Taylor to lose her partnership with Adidas after collaborating on a few very successful sneakers with the brand. As a company rep told us in 2013 via email: “All I can say is that adidas partners with athletes and artists who blend well with our brand values. We evaluate our relationships with partners based on the values we hold at adidas and we don’t condone violence of any kind.”

From there, their beef went pretty quiet. There were even moments where Rihanna defended Taylor from unnecessary hate. One particular instance included the time a fan said something about Taylor’s late grandparents in 2015 and the “Work” singer sent them a direct message saying their behavior was “f–k sh-t,” chiding the fan. “I know ya’ll protective, but c’mon, that sh-t was unnecessary.”

Not sure what motivated the push for peace but we’re happy about it. With all the love Taylor’s been receiving since doing Kanye West’s “Fade” video (West is quite close with Rihanna by the way), it’s nice to see that so many doors are opening up for her and that old drama is being put to rest. Fingers crossed for a future collaboration!
