“I’m Their Mom Until I Drop Them Off To Their Biological Moms” Driver Saves Children’s Lives When Her Bus Caught On Fire
A Maryland woman is being lauded as a hero today for saving the lives of all the students on her bus when it burst into flames. According to NBC 4, on Monday, neighbors rushed out of their homes when they noticed a school bus ablaze in the middle of the street. They were relieved to find that all of the children had made it safely off the bus.
The miracle was all because of the driver Renita Smith who moved quickly in the face of danger.
“I opened my door, took off my seat belt, and I got my babies off that bus. I ran back onto the bus to make sure that every seat was clear.”
All 20 students in her care, from the Glenarden Woods Elementary School in Prince George’s County, made it to safety.
Smith said she’s very protective of the children who ride her bus as she’s a mother to her own four-year-old child.
“As I’m driving the bus, they’re my babies. I’m their mom until I drop them off to their biological moms. I have people calling me a hero, and I say that I’m just a mom.”
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Thank God for Renita!
