There are a few things that you just can’t do once you’re in a committed relationship. Even the most relaxed, patient and open-minded partner wouldn’t want you doing these things. And, hey, you wouldn’t want your partner doing them, either! That being said, these single-women-only behaviors make you feel more alive than you ever thought possible. They’ll help you find your boundaries with others, and with yourself. They’ll help you learn what you’re capable of, and make you feel like you can survive anything. They’ll help you know what you need in a life-long partner, and what you can’t stand. They’ll show you that you can be ridiculously, astoundingly happy without a partner, which is crucial to gaining the confidence you need to attract the right partner. And, honestly, they’re just things that you’ll want to get out of your system at some point. So it’s better to do them now, than when they could ruin a relationship. Here are 15 wild things to get out of your system before settling down.

Being a shots girl or gogo dancer

Being an integral part of nightlife for just a summer is so much fun. You can make hundreds of dollars of tips in a night, and you develop a great camaraderie with your coworkers. But your partner probably won’t want men putting singles in your bra.

Living in a co-op

Living in a co-op, in dormitory style rooms, where you share the cleaning and cooking duties with dozens or hundreds of your peers and throw parties together is really fun (and budget friendly!!) But it’s not conducive to a relationship.

The chick thing

If you’re straight, and you’ve ever been curious about what it’s like to be with another woman, you’ll probably need to do that before you settle down. Your partner probably considers it infidelity, even if it’s with the same gender.

The orgy thing

That’s another thing you probably can’t try once you’re in a committed relationship. Unless you’re in a very, um, non-traditional one.

Burning man and similar festivals

If you are a “burner” couple who lives for these events, that’s one thing. But if you’re a woman who works a 9 to 5, usually spends her weekends hiking or knitting and just wants to try a few of these events, I’d do it now. They’re full of nude people on drugs having orgies..and they don’t a lot of the things on this list.

Selling all your stuff and couch surfing

It can be incredibly liberating to live with nothing but the clothes on your back for a few months, surfing couches, exchanging a little labor for meals and beer. But you’d be hard pressed to find a partner who was comfortable with you doing that.

Volunteering somewhere that desperately needs your help

If you crave a fully immersive volunteer experience, like living in an orphanage in a third world country and teaching the children, you should do it now. It’ll be hard to leave your partner for several months later.

Climbing your Mount Everest

Whatever your physical equivalent of climbing Mount Everest is, do it before you have a partner who worries about you, you know, dying. That’s pressure that your adventure doesn’t need.

Going to tons of strip clubs

I think every woman should patronize a good number of strip clubs in her day. It’s an experience that teaches you about body confidence–you’ll see women of all shapes and sizes take that pole. Your partner, however, won’t love you frequenting these places.

Going on a solo road trip

Don’t book a hotel–stay in roadside motels. Grab a drink at a local watering hole. Chat with the old men who’ve been going there for decades. Hike the unbeaten path. Just don’t do it when you have a boyfriend at home who is A) worried about you and B) Wondering why he wasn’t invited.

Going on unexpected dates

Well, obviously you’ll need to get all of your other dates out of the way before finding “The one.” But some women really crave a short phase in which they choose dates like it’s online shopping; trying a bunch of different styles on, just for fun

Kissing a total stranger

It will make you feel like a total badass. But, naturally, you can’t do it once you’re committed.

Hooking up with a totally hot but incompatible person

There’s something empowering about treating yourself to a short booty call relationship with someone who you know you’d never seriously date, but who you find damn attractive.

Working at a resort/on a cruise ship

If you’re ever unemployed and not sure what to do, work for a few months at an all-inclusive resort or on a cruise. The staff becomes really close, and it usually means living in a gorgeous place for a while.
