I’m sure you’re well aware of the fact that over the last few years, Rick Ross has lost quite a few pounds with the help of integrating CrossFit workouts into his schedule and a newfound love of pears. It was necessary after the rapper had multiple seizures and was instructed by his doctor to lose weight and work on his diet. Well, he did it. Despite looking much leaner and healthier already, Ross is still at it, as staying in shape has become a way of life for the self-proclaimed “biggest boss.”

“I’m happy,” he shared with Men’s Health for the September issue. “I’m still losing weight, and now I’m starting to build hard muscle in places.”

What’s helped him to do all of that is going for a light jog outdoors four days a week, followed by the rapper tackling five different exercises, including moves like deadlifts, box jumps, medicine ball throws and more for 30 minutes.

He also sleeps longer. If Ross can’t get in eight hours a night, he makes time for a lengthy nap. He admits that before changing his lifestyle, he was getting less than half of eight hours due to spending late nights in the studio.

And when it comes to his food, he enjoys a lot more than pears these days. He also consumes kale casseroles, salmon and salads with the help of a chef. But he says that enjoying some of the foods he loved before losing all the weight has actually helped him keep it off. That includes Wingstop and Checkers. “I knew my weight loss wouldn’t last if I never ate the things I love,” he told the magazine. But he only takes in those wings and burgers two to three days a week when he actually craves them, and he can only eat them between noon and 5 p.m. Nutritionist Craig Weller told the magazine such diet inclusions work for the rapper because it’s important to focus on making what you eat incrementally healthier over time instead of trying to be too stern out as quickly as possible.

In the end, all of these adjustments have worked for Ross without cramping his style.

“I set my own pace, started slow, and made working out and eating healthier part of my lifestyle,” Ross told Men’s Health. “If I quit all the things I loved cold turkey, I knew it would only be so long before I went back to my old ways.”
