Change is constant. And nowhere does that ring more true than in the major cities across America. Immigration, gentrification, and the cost of living all factor into where Blacks have settled over the years. The following list includes the top big cities with the largest Black populations according to 2010 census. In another ten years, we can guess that the bottom five may fall off the list.

10. Los Angeles, CA 859, 086

L.A’s black population is definitely dwindling, as its Hispanic population continues to rise. Today, preference for city jobs is given to bi-lingual speakers.

I always thought I was Dominican republic not African American? Or does it just mean that I am labeled in the black category.

That’s great that Afro-Puerto Ricans and Afro-Dominicans are considered “Black” because at the end of the day, you can speak English, Spanish, Creole, or Portuguese (think of Black Brazilians) but if the African influence is evident in your culture and physical features- then Black is Black. You are so right about NYC…put together all the dark skinned Spanish or Portuguese-speaking people from Latin America with the dark skinned English or Creole-speaking people….you got yourself a diverse, yet beautiful “Black” population living in NYC. We’re pretty much all the same…our only major differences are the languages we speak, but language should not be a reason for separating ourselves from each other. At the end of the day, our African mothers and fathers were sent to ALL parts of the Americas. We are their children.

True true true, we all African decent, and we need to acknowledge one another in a positive Matter we have a vibrant. Culture and history….

Made this point a while back, the only hope for African American population to stay buffered in most cities is an infusion of Caribbean and African people..AA can go around bashing Caribbean people and their culture, but the truth is they need us. Los Angeles definitely needs it, glad its on the list, but the AA population their is homogeneous and needs an infusion of blacks outside of U.S to stay at a healthy level..

Thanks to all the Caribbean and African people.

and you would think these 10 cities would get together and collabrarate and have their own economic engine instead of looking for this white male run gov't to come to your aid .. igot news for you its been decades and ur still wait'n ……. dont turn ur back on obama………. i'll stand w/ him right or wrong like u negros did prez clinton. check………………… we must press on.

I wonder what would happen if you listed the cities with failing public schools, how many of the cities cited here would be on that list also.

  • Rslady

Where are these numbers from? Can’t be the census. DC has about 600k citizens period. Even if you add in all the suburbs and Baltimore you won’t get over 1 million blacks. Illegal immigration has caused more of a population change than the whites moving into the city.

    • Smmmoke

I was thinking the same thing about Atlanta who's population is less than 500k…this must mean the entire metro population which is probably still wrong because Chicago's numbers would be higher. This post needs a bibliography or something. lol

  • The Voice of Reason

So what % of black people don't live in any of these cities?

    • Never Mind

We need a revolution and a renaissance. If we empower our community by education and economic literacy and independence than we would be better off. I could care less about acceptance from White America or the rest of the world..it's all about RESPECT. You don't have to like a group in order to respect them-Respect my drive, my work, my mission, my ethics and my culture. Every other group (Asians, Arabs, Indians etc) understand that except Blacks. Stop begging to be favored and liked. We keep breeding this "Victimized Culture" . If we continue to allow these people to have this much power over us than we will continue to be weak. There is no sound reasons why Blacks in the US should be poor at all, f what Al Sharpton out dated butt is talking about and get you some POWERNOMICS. I often wonder what state Black AMerica would be in if we would have went the Marcus Garvey (and others like him) direction. Are we truly God Fearing People or are we White-Men Fearing People. God didn't put us on Earth to be second best to no one-We need a new Black-ONLY Agenda.
