Music and style are somewhat interchangeable as they both serve as a means of self-expression. So it’s no surprise that some of our favorite girl groups were also trendsetters in fashion, whether they knew it or not.
1960’s groups like the Supremes gave us glitz, glamour and just plain fabulousness. Before PETA existed, the three stylish ladies had every-day women longing to rock fur coats and diamonds (or rhinestones) to feel just as fabulous. The Supremes, and other groups like them, paved the way for future girl groups to create and embrace their individual style. Soon to follow were 90’s r&b groups like SWV and TLC. While their styles were quite different, they all became trendsetters in their own right. TLC even made wearing condoms as part of your wardrobe cool (well maybe not, but it definitely worked for Left Eye).
From the glamorous style of The Supremes to the boldness of TLC, check out some of our favorite r&b groups who created their own style.
