No Regrets: 5 Things You Should Experience in College

August 30, 2011  |

This is for the young ones, who are enrolling in school for the first time or for those who’ve been there and done that and want to reminisce for a bit. College is an exciting time. (And no I’m not being paid by any institution.)  Many students around the country, will be on your own for the first time, you’ll meet people who will either intrigue or disgust you– or a little bit of both– and you might even learn a few things along the way. Either way you’re in for a ride. But before you unbuckle your seat belt, make sure you’ve experienced a few things. Check it out.

  • May want to consider learning something as well, as a distant sixth "thang". What a ludicrous article! There are soooo many interesting things to do, such as p**ing in the Organic Chemistry Professor's motorcycle gas tank, setting off firecrackers outside the window of the dormitory Warden's room at 3AM, hijacking an alumunum ladder-on-wheels to coast down the school hill until you hit a live power line, escaping for an a bicycle ride down the coastal road on a full Moon's night without taking along a flashlight, neglecting to check whether there was a Full Eclipse that night, and "liberating" the letter "T" off the neon sign of the school's name from the Administration Tower. And that's just the stuff that can be mentioned on the internet.

Got to be the laziest bit of tripe I’ve seen published in the name of black women. “Make out in the stacks”? Thanks for raising the standards of the sisters of our tribe. “Appreciate the experience”? Duh! How long did it take you to figure this one out? Thanks CNN for referring this site on my PDA. Proof positive that white folk are firmly committed to promoting the most mediocre of African American products as exemplary of our race.

  • Cara

Thank you Triago for your comment on Sept 4th. It’s good to know that someone out there is using their brain.

  • Chris Rocks

You could have put this whole article on one page. What a wast of time , lame.

Hay, jerseyturnpikenit, I remember that party wit professor brown. U was droppin it like was hot, or at least luke warm. Hey do you still do those parties? Holla at ya boy.

  • karlrb

    A worthless article.

I love tyler perry. before I dropped out of college, all I did was watch tyler perry movies all day. The way he has everyone put hard “R’s” on the ends of words is genious. Ya hearrrrrd.

  • Triago

Worst advice ever written. “Make out in the stacks”? Ok, if u want to look like a low class w/no class outsider from the ghetto. “love the walk of shame”? Ok if you want to spread your diseases to poor guys who thought they were with someone clean. Not to mention keeping the tradition alive of the unwed baby momma wit no daddy around. Mmmm hmmm, thats right. I done said it. Lets stop falling in to our own stereotypes ya heard.

I loved my college years. It was a good chapter in my journey through life. I made several friends and I am still friends with them today.

  • HeadSmackeroni

College is where I first contracted my first STD.

Why would anyone want to attend an HBCU? Some low standard, low scoring school? Um no. I stick with MIT and all it's East Indians, lol.

    • KChristin

Not all HBCUs are low standard and low scoring. Fact of the matter is, they would probably be better if African Americans put more care (money) into the schools instead of cars, jewelry, clothes, etc.

By the way, I attend an HBCU and for the past few years, we have been the top school to put African Americans into medical schools.

  • Prissy

I attend an HBCU… Aint NOTHING like it! But for grad school I will be attending a PWI (Predominantly White Institution) as we like to call them! You should have BOTH experiences if you are able to do so. I am really glad my dad made me live on campus in a dorm my freshman year!! It was the WORST and BEST experience ever! LOL What great memories! I'm really happy I attended college. And for those who didn't, there are so many options! There's night school, online school and even trade school! And so many financial aid options! Go for it! 😉

  • Anna

I wish I went to college that had dorms…. I form the lasting friendships that I wanted to.

  • wish i could have attended college and had a great experience instead of militiary college and then Rotc all the time. . . never got to have the experience i always wanted. . .

  • Kat

@ Barbara Codner, you can still pledge a sorority, Grad Chapter.

Hmmm, I wish I had attended an HBCU! But of course if I had, I wouldn't have met my husband, we attended the same University!

  • I wish I would've attended another school and joined a sorority.

    • ThomL

I wish you had learned how to use correct grammar for subjunctive mood. Corrected: "I wish I had attended another school and joined a sorority." The "would" verb does not belong in this type of sentence. I wish you had paid attention to English grammar.

  • the first one was stupid, the rest i can agree with.
