Amy Winehouse Found Dead in Her Home

July 23, 2011  |

According to London police officers, singer Amy Winehouse was found dead in her Camden Square home. The 27-year-old soul singer had a long and public battle with drugs and alcohol. Winehouse had been in and out of various rehab programs over the past few years. A video of the singer giving a cringe-worthy performance in Serbia went viral last month with many people commenting that she appeared to be back in the thick of her drug addiction.

Winehouse leaves behind many fans or her distinctive, raspy voice. Her critically acclaimed 2006 album Back to Black won five Grammys and garnered praises from a diverse international fan community.  Her 2003 album Frank was also a critical success.Often described as having a “black” voice, Winehouse’s music was a blend of soul, jazz and perhaps a dash of rock n’ roll.

Even though the official cause of death is “unexplained” right now, speculation is that her death is drug related. Do you think her untimely passing will serve as a wake-up call to other celebrities and non-celebrities who are trapped in a cycle of drug and alcohol binges?

RIP  Amy Winehouse.
