Ask MN: I Love My Friend, But Her Son Is Bad As Hell And I Don’t Want To Be Around Him
I’m desperately in need of some good advice and I love the articles on MN so figured I’d ask.
Basically I have a really good friend that I reconnected with after about seven years because we now happen to be co-workers. I love the girl, great times when we link up, etc.
She’s a single mom and the past few times we’ve gotten together she’s had to bring her 5 1/2 year old son along. Now let me preface all of this by saying although I don’t have any yet – I LOVE kids. I’ve worked for years as a teacher’s aide at an elementary school so it’s not that I don’t like kids, but OMG this boy is the most misbehaved child I have ever met.
Recently we’re sitting in a restaurant, mind you other kids his age & younger are around too, but he’s the only one screaming & yelling. He’s jumping on the booth seats, throwing food, coughing on my plate, his plate and her plate. I’m feeling embarrassed and annoyed as hell and she’s over here smiling, laughing and having a good time, all the while ignoring and talking over his bad a–. I wanted to slap the hell out of both of them…
I love my friend and I don’t want to hurt her feelings, but I also don’t want to be around her misbehaved child.
Please help me ladies, I’m running out of excuses.
