Stop The Madness: 10 Things And People We’re Still Tired Of In 2016
If 2016 looks and feels strangely familiar in a déjà vu sort of way, there’s a reason. We’re still in the first quarter of 2016 and yet so much of this new year (can we still call it a new year?) is filled with the same old antics we hoped and prayed would be left in the past where they belong. Here’s a list of things we’re still tired of in 2016.
Attacking Young Black Celebs
“Comedian” Julie Klausner straight up attacked Zendaya Coleman by publicly body-shaming the young star’s weight. In proper fashion, Coleman clapped back at Klausner, asking if she wants to be next to be set straight (remember, Zendaya schooled Giuliana Rancic after she made disrespectful comments about her faux locs).
And a New York Post writer recently trashed siblings Jaden and Willow Smith, saying “any reasonable parent would be ashamed of them.” What’s shameful is these grown adults thinking it’s okay to behave in this manner. If the tables were turned and someone came after their children in the same way, they’d be up in arms.
Attacks On Black Children
We’ve heard several stories in the news about Black children being sent home from school for wearing their natural hair in certain styles or for rocking pro-Black clothing. This policing of Black bodies is beyond unacceptable and needs to stop.
Donald Trump is a very dangerous man and his racist, and hate-spreading antics should have no place in politics, let alone society as a whole. And yet, he is raking in the votes thanks to his rabble-rousing followers.
“Make America Great Again”
Speaking of Trump, his campaign slogan harkens on a make-believe America of yesteryear. A time when things were supposedly ideal for everyone, but actually, just White men. A time when women and people of color were treated like second-class citizens and had significantly fewer rights. A time when…well, you get the point.
Where to begin with Ms. Dash? We’d like to think that her appearance at the Oscars earlier this year was her last public appearance for a long, long time. But unfortunately, Dash has a platform thanks to Fox News.
Haters gon’ hate, but haters hating on Ciara and Russell Wilson? They’ve made their disdain for the happy couple very well known. But why? They’re clearly happy, they’re clearly in love, and she clearly upgraded. Let them be.
Kim is gonna Kardashian herself all the way to the bank. It’s what she does. But do we have to hear about her every single move?
Cornrows have had a name for quite some time, and I can assure you, that name isn’t “boxer braids.” And they certainly weren’t originated by UFC fighters or the Kardashians, so let’s put an end to all this rebranding of Black hairstyles when non-Black celebrities wear them.
Thankfully, the election is months away. That means we can finally cast our vote and put an end to all of the crazy election antics and the endless debates that have, as of late, spawned little more than sound bites for local nightly news.
President Obama doesn’t have much more time in the White House. What better time than now to blame him for things he’s not responsible for, like Trump’s existence.
