Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless Mocha

Since I started wearing makeup in high school, I’ve been a loyal MAC customer. My older sister took me to the MAC store in our local shopping mall one day and allowed me to go HAM. Ever since then, I’ve been somewhat of a makeup snob.  But these days, my time is limited, and those little outings where me, her, and my mom would spend hours at the MAC counter together are few and far between.

Recently, I found myself in a bit of jam. We were scheduled to film our weekly web series, “Did Y’all See?” one early afternoon and I had run out of my favorite BB cream from MAC. While on my way work that morning, I weighed my options. I could either be late for work, wait for the Sephora up the street from my office to open and drop a bit of money on a different foundation brand that I may or may not like, or I could pop my head into the CVS that I would already be passing on my way to the office and see if I can find a quick, reasonably priced, substitute until I could make it to the MAC store.

The punctual and practical part of my personality won that battle, and I chose to go with the latter option. I scanned the makeup aisle for a few minutes before I decided to go with Maybelline’s Fit Me! Matte + Poreless Foundation—partly because I had at least heard of this line before and partly because it was one of the only lines in the store that day that had shades in stock that were close to my complexion.

Claims:

According to Maybelline New York, “this ultra-lightweight foundation contains micro-powders that absorb oil for a matte and poreless-looking finish. The unique formula goes beyond matching just skin tone and also matches the texture of normal to oily skin for the ultimate natural fit.”

My experience:

Just before it was time to film, I pulled out my makeup bag while sitting at my desk and began to apply the Fit Me! Foundation. I was pleasantly surprised by the application process. It went on smoothly and practically melted into my skin. Although I was nervous about purchasing foundation before I had a chance to try it on, it blended perfectly with my skin tone. Also, I only had to apply a little bit, and it didn’t look cakey at all, which is one of my biggest fears about drugstore foundation.

It went on so smoothly that my boss stopped in the middle of a sentence to tell me how nice it looked and how it looked like I had some kind of airbrushing done. The was a pretty big deal considering that she’s a fellow makeup snob. She, too, was floored when I revealed that it was something I purchased from the cosmetics aisle at CVS.

As far as longevity goes, it didn’t rub off or stain my clothes. My makeup looked fresh for the entire day until I removed it later that evening after arriving home. It’s also lightweight, so it didn’t feel like my skin was suffocating throughout the day or anything either. My face didn’t become shiny and best of all, I only paid about $7.00 for it.

Yesterday, my mom called me to tell me that she and my sister visited MAC, and they grabbed a tube of BB cream for me; however, I’m having so much fun with this 1 fluid ounce bottle of liquid skin I got from the drug store that it might be a while before I even use it.

If you want light to medium coverage and are looking for an affordable liquid foundation, I highly recommend Fit Me! Matte + Poreless. I tried to snap a photo (below) to give you guys an idea of what it looks like once applied, but honestly, my moody, sometimesy iPhone camera and my lackluster selfie game isn’t doing it much justice.

Oh yeah, I purchased the darkest shade this line offers, which is 360 Mocha.
