As usual, my co-workers and I were having the most random of conversations today. And eventually, we began to discuss penises—uncircumcised ones. One colleague who is Guyanese, explained that most Caribbean men aren’t circumcised.

“It’s just a cultural thing,” she said.

Another co-worker and I were quite intrigued. Most of the man-parts we’ve seen in our day were circumcised ones. And I definitely had no idea that many Caribbeans are against ditching the foreskin. But after she said it, something clicked.

I was in my late teens and pretty inexperienced in the sexual department. I had only seen one other penis in person, but when this guy pulled it out without any real warning, I knew something was different the second I looked down. To be quite honest, I was a little weirded out. It was um, kind of interesting looking and not very easy on the eyes. Although, I will say that I didn’t develop an appreciation for the aesthetics of the penis until much later in life. It wasn’t until years later that I realized what was different about this guy’s junk: he was uncircumcised. And as it turns out, he was Jamaican.

Interestingly, my Guyanese colleague’s experience has been the exact opposite. She, on the other hand, has only seen two circumcised penises in her life. The first one she saw caused her to actually phone a friend and tell her how beautiful it was. The rest have been uncircumcised, and she says that she’s pretty used to it.

“If anything, it has it’s perks,” she said. “It’s less work for you when it comes to handjobs and what not.”

We all have our stories, but as usual, we’d like to hear yours. Do you remember the first time that you saw an uncircumcised penis? Were you alarmed? Which do you prefer: circumcised or uncircumcised?
