50 Cent: “Power” Cast Should’ve Been Invited To Golden Globes

In the rare event that you were sitting at home wondering why the cast of “Power” was not present at the Golden Globes last night, here’s your answer: they weren’t invited. At least, that’s what the series’ executive producer Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson says. The rapper-turned-actor took to Instagram Monday to express his disappointment over the snub.

“This is how Omari looked at me, When STARZ said they don’t have tickets to the Golden Globes,” he captioned a photo of “Power” star Omari Hardwick. “I said ‘I know, I’ll fix it.’ Sometimes you don’t have to say a word to express how you feel.”

Everyone knows that I love “Power”. I faithfully tune in each week; I even write weekly recaps for the series. But I really don’t think that it was a good idea for 50 to address not being invited to the Golden Globes on social media. It’s unprofessional and serves as a poor reflection of the cast and crew who work so hard to make this series great. Of course, it’s obvious that 50 gives no damns about protocol, but dang, he has to have people on staff who can take care of this kind of stuff behind the scenes.

Do you think 50 and the gang should have been invited to the Golden Globes? Is he justified in calling folks out?

Hmmm… Power wasn’t nominated for a Globe. I don’t think the cast of Strike Back got invitations either. All of these awards shows and committees are lobbied and from what I understand the Hollywood Foreign Press Association isn’t that large to begin with (less than 100 members) and they’re not composed of the traditional industry insiders. Maybe 50 should increase his lobbying efforts for the show and then the cast can get a nomination and an invite.

Power needs to get their cast out there interviewing, TV and Magazines. I’ve seen Viola and Taraji EVERYWHERE! Getting covers left and right. Naturi needs to get out there. A chance to present herself in a full dimensional light. The men need to get out there as well. The team need to get to work in the background. 50 get your boss game up and stop running your mouth.

I personally, for the life of me can’t understand why blacks feel it soooooo necessary to have their work recognized by a club that basically considers itself privately white. This isn’t a racist rant, but an expression of utter frustration at the idea that we feel we have to be invited, somewhere, especially when we are not welcomed. Anytime anyone black receives an award at one of these events, it’s more of a political appeasement than a genuine recognition of talent.

And another thing: whether it be the oscars, emmys, or golden globe, the idea of such awards are self-serving at best: a bunch of actors patting each other on the back.

Isn’t it rewarding enough that a show or movie have loyal viewers?

50 is right! You have an Emmy ceremony for dramas and don’t invite any of the cast of Power? As Trump would say “That’s the problem with our nation; too politically correct!” You don’t like the 50 fine but what does that have to do with the art? Power has an audience regardless of what you think of 50; so respect that audience and include Power as part of the TV drama family.

    ‘Sunshinegirl:’ you’re on point!

I find odd that he or the cast did not care about being invited to the golden globes, until Empire started and was an surprising success, now the power cast wants to start whinning like 5 yr olds and 50 cent. what a bunch of crap!!

  • elliegrll

Power has nothing to do with Empire. Power needs better promotion, and that includes the way that 50 is portraying it in public. Listening to him and other Power supporters, it is easy to come to the conclusion that the only reason why people should pay attention to Power is because the characters have the same color skin as the characters on Empire. That’s not a very good argument. Why not compare Power to shows that are similar to it, instead of comparing it to a soap. Power is similar to Breaking Bad, and considering that that show is over, wouldn’t it make more sense to try and get fans of that show to watch Power. I guess it is easier to fall back into the crabs in a bucket mentality.

I’m pretty sure that the Power stars weren’t invited to last years Golden Globes or the Emmy’s either, so this current rant is just another example of 50 comparing his show to Empire, instead of promoting the show on its own merits.

He is very right for calling them out,too many things are kept under the rug in the name of professionalism.

  • Alinxz

It would be better if 50 was not on the show at all he is the weakest link to be honest. Also it sounds more like it was an issue with Starz is the network not responsible for organising these types of things?

You guys are some trolls and probably live with your parents

  • OSHH

I have hard time feeling any sympathy for Curtis Jackson and I don’t care for power or anything he is affiliated with.

    • Aj

      thank you

  • Guest1205

Did the show get nominated for anything? Just curious.

    • I_am_a_Gladiator/Scandalista

      Nope. Complete snub.

      • Guest1205

Thanks. LOL. I guess 50 thinks they should have been there because he’s so special.

        • I_am_a_Gladiator/Scandalista

I blame him for their misfortunes because the show is great and they deserved it but he keeps opening his mouth.

  • Trisha_B

The cast should’ve been invited, 50 could stay home. Look at his behavior, he sabotaged himself & his cast

    • Ajavee

50 has foot in mouth disease.

  • Sunshinegirl

HE’S likely one of the biggest reasons the show keeps getting snubbed. The writing and acting on Power far exceeds many shows that are on TV right now, Empire included, but he knows how the “circle” of folks don’t like to be associated with the likes of him. He needs to reel it back and start acting more professionally, and maybe his body of work can get more recognition. He spends more time online having b**tch fits about his kids and his children’s mothers and exposing people with s ex tapes.

    • Ajavee

Sunshine I could not have posted better ^5.

    • What!

So the writers and other actors besides 50 cent) on the series should be punished because people behind Golden Globes and Stars hate 50 cent? It’s appropriate for Stars to renew the series and make money off “Power” but not support the show when it comes to recognition?

I don’t care for 50 cents either, but the show is better than a lot of winners and nominees at the Golden Globes and Emmys.

      BS at its finest.

    • Davontae Hill

Smh but the controversial Tarntino wins though ??! How do you explain that and Tarantino is much more outspoken and against the system than Curtis Jackson but you wouldn’t know that would you …on the outside looking in just be quiet
