Tamar’s health condition was far more serious than it originally appeared. What doctors initially diagnosed as pneumonia turned out to be pulmonary embolism. She had blood clots in both of her lungs. The blood clots led to a series of other health issues.

Thankfully, the story has a happy ending.

Tamar is not only out of the hospital, she’s back to work on “The Real.” And since the show is all about transparency, the ladies talked about her tumultuous and presumably scary health past few months. In a video montage, narrated by Tamera Mowry-Housley, the show detailed Braxton’s journey to health.

“Tamar’s medical tests reveal she isn’t suffering from pneumonia but instead, a much more serious medical condition: pulmonary embolism. Tamar has blood clots in both of her lungs. The very next day, Tamar announces she is leaving “Dancing With The Stars” and must take time away from “The Real,” which is the beginning of what will become a long, often harrowing medical journey.

Doctors prescribe blood thinners to treat the blood clots but are concerned that the pain in her upper chest is most likely due to a blockage in a vein. Further medical tests reveal Tamar suffers from a condition called thoracic outlet syndrome. Due to strenuous activity, the muscles around her rib have become enlarged, blocking the blood from flowing to major veins and arteries in the arm and causing blood clots to form.

The blood thinners doctors prescribe clear the blood clots in Tamar’s lungs. She’s released from the hospital.

Following one week of bed rest, doctors, determined to get at the cause of the problem, decide major surgery is in order. Tamar undergoes a procedure to remove her rib and remove the pressure.

When her co-host Jeannie Mai asked Tamar if it was ok if they ask her questions about the procedure and how she took everything, she said:

Child, I expect y’all to be all up in my business, of course.
