Toni Braxton Biopic Gets January Premiere Date

December 8, 2015  |

Lifetime recently released the first photos from Toni Braxton: Unbreak My Heart, and it looks like it could be quite interesting. One photo depicts actress Lex Scott Davis, who has been cast as Braxton, during a performance scene. Another shows the real Toni with Lex and the four actresses who have been cast to play her sisters.

The Grammy Award-winning singer’s long-awaited biopic is set to premiere on Saturday, January 23 at 8 p.m. ET/PT and as previously reported, will document the singer’s professional and personal journey to superstardom.

“Toni Braxton: Unbreak My Heart follows the singer’s journey from her discovery by mega producers L.A. Reid and Kenneth ‘Babyface’ Edmonds to her battle with Lupus,” the network explains in a press release. “The movie also delves into how she made it through her public divorce all while navigating her son’s autism and family struggles. Toni Braxton: Unbreak My Heart chronicles the untold measures the wildly talented artist took to make herself and her family whole again, becoming a global inspiration.”

From what we can see, it looks like they did alright in the casting department. And while the network has developed a bit of a reputation for butchering biopics after the whole Aaliyah debacle, it looks like this one might be a good one.

Can’t wait to see this, a month after my son’s birthday. Lifetime better not mess it up. I’m a huge Toni Braxton fan.

  • Shayshay

I love the Braxtons so I’m here for it…not sure why they are doing this so soon…..maybe if they waited when she was like 60 or so then I could see it, but it sounds like someone needs a check.

I still think Toni Braxton is too alive and kickin’ for a biopic.

I demand a LIL KIM biopic!!!!!

    From her HUMBLE beginning

To the SUPER SENSATIONAL ASIAN nail tech

    I WANT IT ALL!!!!!

        Coming Valentine’s day…

B.E.T. in conjunction with YOU PAY NOW productions:

TRAPPED in the body of LIL a BLACK GIRL!!!!

LIL KIM: Nails and HIP HOP

    • Chanda

Me So H*rny: The Story of 2 Live Crew lol..

      • LAWAT

I think the 2 live crew epic tale would be BETTER visualized as a….

and Michael Strahan as UNCLE LUKE would be groundbreaking!!!

    • Meemo

No shade to Kim but I think that would be better suited for a Bad Boy movie that includes Kim. I don’t know that she could carry a movie alone.

      • LAWAT

        Stop it!!!!!…

Lil Kim life is so profound that a 2 Hour portrayal is NOT ENOUGH!!!!

Lil Kim’s story is worthy of MINI(get it) series…such as Rich Man Poor Man or SHOGUN!!!!

I love Toni and the Braxton family! This hopefully will turn out to be a good biopic. (Random…I always used to sing Toni songs in my car and never always know what the hell she was saying sometime LMAO!!!) I free styled my HEART OUT lol

  • Ariel

Why don’t these women look ANYTHING like her real sisters? I know it’s not all about looks, but that should play a part as well. I’ll check out the film when it premieres though.

    • f

It might be because lifetime is trying to capture what the sisters looked liked before all the plastic surgery they all had.

    • Meemo

I could look at each one and tell by their styling and look who they are depicting. You’re not going to have a doppelganger for each sister. With great acting if they can pull off the mannerisms and intent then it will be a good story. Angela doesn’t look like Tina and she nailed her performance as did Will with Muhammad Ali. It can be done.

  • Chanda

Well, if they can do a TLC movie on VH-1 I don’t see why a Toni Braxton movie can’t be done on Lifetime. I like watching biopics. I’ll be waiting.

    • KR

She’d be better off going to another network, especially if LT f@$%s this up…. I hope not, plus there are some things they’ve never told the general public before, so this movie may have a few surprises.

  • Jasmine

I can’t wait to see it. I’m glad Lifetime is doing more black movies.

  • LiiSH

I agree that we probably won’t learn any profound new information, but it should be interesting to see what kind of biopic Lifetime can piece together with cooperation from the subject and/or their camp.

  • Lee1

I don’t get what Lifetime finds so profound about her that they had to make a movie about her. She had (has?) a really good voice, a decent career, and, unfortunately she’s had misfortune. None of this makes her “life” story all that special or different from a lot of artists that have come and gone.

    • Jasmine

No reason to hate. It is a tv movie. I’m sure you would not be complaining if they did a tv movie on Amie Winehouse who had a shorter career and was a druggie or someone else who is white. Yet when a network decides to do a tv movie on any black person people bitch and moan for no reason. No one is forcing you to watch Lifetime or their movies.

      • Lee1

I’m not hating . . just my opinion. I didn’t give a flying f**k about amy winehouse – you sound like an idiot. I get it you’re a fan – good for you. You seem the one trying to hate. You need to calm down.

    • CeCe Says Ugonlearntaday

      Plus she’s living with Lupus

      • Lee1

I understand that and I hope she is doing well.

        • CeCe Says Ugonlearntaday

Yea lupus is a hard thing to go through. Maybe her story wil help someone else. Who knows??

    i wish tonie the best

Once the point of this biopic? Don’t we know it all from the reality show?
