Shea Moisture already has a pretty lauded selection of hair products in stores, from the beloved African Black Soap to the classic Raw Shea Butter line. But they wouldn’t be ahead of the natural hair game if they didn’t keep expanding and refining their hair offerings.

So today I bring you a review of their latest innovation, the Professional Care line. Yes, professional as in salon-quality products.

The line comes in three collections: the Curl Care line, the Keratin Care line, and the Color Care line. These offerings address most hair needs, so I shared the Keratin Care and Curl Care line with friends and saved the Color Care for myself. There are at least four products in each collection, so in the interest of time, I’ll speak of the ones we recommend. With the new performance technology in the products, I can say that we were definitely pleased with the results.

Our favorites from the line? Well, a good friend of mine tried out the Keratin Care line on her ‘fro of 10 years and said that KeraVegaMonoiOil Complex Smooth Finish Shampoo and Conditioner left her hair feeling very soft and clean. She loved the consistency of the shampoo and conditioner as they didn’t leave a residue. The Professional Thermal Protection spray coated her hair nicely as well as the Professional Finish Blow Dry Cream, which she put on before blowing out her afro with a blow dryer and flat iron. She said the coating of the spray and cream didn’t weigh down her hair.

Brande Victorian tried out the Curl Care line and raved about the Professional Curl Memory Leave-in Conditioner and Rehydrating Cocktail Masque. She said it packed a punch in terms of providing moisture without taking away the bounce in the curls in her newly-natural ‘fro. And she didn’t have any complaints when it came to the ability of the products to help pump the brakes on shrinkage. But, again, the biggest pro of the conditioner and masque is that it left her hair feeling silky smooth. Her strands soaked it right up.

Time for me! I used the Color Care line to help with my fading auburn hair color. It’s hard to get a lot of products to really make an impact on my locs when it comes to penetrating with moisture, but the recovery masque truly impressed me. As for the Vibrant Color Shampoo and Conditioner, I love the consistency of both goods, and they will be my go-to products after my next color touch-up at the shop. Especially the conditioner, which provided my hair with some necessary moisture before I applied the shampoo. The Vibrant Color Shine Glaze didn’t really blow my mind when it came to my actual locs, but it provided a beautiful sheen for my new growth.

So, my favorite product in my collection, in terms of helping to bring out what’s left of the vibrancy of my hair color, was the Vibrant Color Masque mixed with the Smoothing Oil, Nourishing Oil, and Intensive Conditioning Oil. All four products together create the Recovery Cocktail mix.

I’ll be honest in saying that every single aspect of the line may not be what you need. Certain things didn’t really make a big impact, while others, from the masques to the conditioners and the heat protection products, definitely made the most significant impressions on all of our respective heads of hair. And that’s the point, there’s something for every hair type with this one. But all three collections are worth a try to figure out what your hair needs and can really soak up. You might need to be choosy, though. The price for the Professional Care products, as expected, is a bit higher ($19.99 for each product). But that’s how it goes for professional-grade goods.
