New Yorkers Get Paid More Than (Almost) Everyone
(Wall Street Journal) — Workers in the New York metropolitan region get paid $1.14 for every $1 the average American worker earns, according to data released Wednesday by the U.S. Labor Department. That’s makes Greater New York the second-best paid part of the country, trailing only the Bay Area in California (where workers get $1.20). WSJ’s Real Time Economics gathered the pay data into an interactive map, showing above and below-average metropolitan areas across the U.S. The pattern is very stark: employees in the South and parts of the Midwest are paid below-average wages, while workers in northern metros and both coasts earn more.
