During a recent appearance on “Tyra Banks Presents the Fab Life,” Grace Gealey finally confirmed what we already knew: she’s engaged to “Empire” co-star Trai Byers. While their engagement was one of the worst kept secrets in Hollywood, we’re thrilled to finally hear it from the horse’s mouth. The actress shared the news during a conversation about the dos and don’ts of dating a coworker.

“So you’re telling us that your love on the set of your show is for real, for real and not a fling,” said Banks.

“For real, for real. Not a fling,” said Gealey as she flashed her left hand. “I’m engaged!”

Obviously, mixing business with pleasure worked out for Boo Boo Kitty, but would she recommend dating a coworker to the everyday woman? Surprisingly, the answer is yes, but Gealey suggests taking inventory of your situation before jumping in head first. Below are  two of the factors that she encouraged daters to keep in mind.

Maturity

According to the actress, a workplace romance is only a good idea “if two people are mature” enough to handle themselves professionally in the event that things don’t work out.

“You have to have the maturity to know that if this doesn’t work out, you’re not going to like throw staplers at the other person,” she advised.

Longevity

Gealey only encourages dating a coworker when both parties are looking for something long-term as opposed to a hit-and-quit type situation.

“I’m not a fan of flings where you work because that’s where it gets a little dangerous,” said the 31-year-old. “If you want to have flings in real life, that’s fine, but where you work…eh. So if you do get involved in your workplace, you want to know that this is something you’re invested in and not just something that is frivolous and fleeting.”

Seems like some pretty sound advice.

Have you ever dated a coworker? How did that work out for you?
