New York Passes Same-Sex Marriage Bill

June 26th, 2011 - By Rashana A. Hooks

New York was filled with PRIDE this weekend as a result of the New York Senate passing a bill that will allow same sex marriage. New York will be the sixth, and largest, state in the union to adopt gay marriage which will take effect on July 24, 2011.

Although New York is a late bloomer in allowing gay marriage, it still reigns as a huge feat considering the state’s size and its international stature. Plus it’s well-known reputation as the birthplace of the gay rights movement with the Stonewall riots in Greenwich Village in 1969 makes this law even more historical.

The only people IMO complaining are gay people who are hiding and now have no reason to. Since these gays are suffering from Stockholm Syndrome, they are forced to preach what they think their masters want to hear. Straight do not care. So, how does?

This is not an issue of gay "rights" or "gay marriage"… it is an issue of redefining marriage. Marriage is not a "right", it is an institution, one that a person may or may not participate in. Just because one is unable to participate in an institution, does not mean that it is "discrimination" or a violation of "rights". If that were the case, then the "rights" of white people are being violated when they can't join the NAACP. The "rights" of blind people are being violated when they can't drive. The "rights" of flat-footed people or people with diabetes are being violated when they're not able to join the military. And the "rights" of single, unmarried people are also being violated, based on the logic that if you "can't" get married, you're being "discriminated" against. Gay people already have civil unions that offer them the same benefits of marriage, and gay people have all the rights that are accorded them by law, already. The push to redefine marriage is more about the gay community forcing society to accept their behavior. Gay people are as much a demographic as "people that like the color blue", which is to say, it is not a true demographic at all. Black people have a common ancestry, genetics, appearance, and other commonalities which relate to who and what they ARE. Gay people only have in common, what they DO… their behavior. If gay people can be a group, then all "thieves" can be a group as well, and protest for their "rights" for a less severe punishment for shoplifting. It makes as much sense as "gay marriage"…

    • huh?

Well when i was younger interracial people weren't allowed to marry. Was it a bad thing to redefine marriage then?

  • just another guy

ha! the following responses are why I can never date a religious person. Look at these borderline illogical and fanatical responses. I pretty much don't care for gay marriage. It doesn't affect me at all. I would not waste my time fighting for gay rights nor to be against gay rights.

    • just saying

Thank you like i dont get it. the law is passed these ladies just mad cuz this is another group that's gonna be married before they are. Ha!

        that's funny LOL

  • hate2breakit2u

like seriously people the law passed already. writing messages on a random websites isn't gonna change the outcome

  • omg

people who hate other people aren't getting saved in the rapture either…sorry

    • Wow

Who said I was hating others because I yearn deliverance from an immoral liberal world? Right. Check it. And check yourself

    • TheArticulator

How simpleminded to assume opposition to gay marriage = hate… that's always the liberal playbook… let's just make up some "rights" and accuse anyone that doesn't agree with us as "hateful". You do realize that it is perfectly possible to be friends with a gay person and yet be opposed to gay marriage, right? Can you simpleminded fools comprehend that easy concept? It's like, if my friend steals something from a store… I can make a comment to him about how it's wrong to steal… that doesn't mean I "hate" him or am bigoted against him. Similarly, I can oppose a redefinition of marriage, and not "hate" gay people. Such a foolish "all or nothing" point of view… go expand your mind.

LORD I PRAY FOR DELIVERANCE FOR YOUR PEOPLE SOULS BEFORE IT IS TO LATE!!!

  • pfft…

Well, I feel that a bill should be passed allowing multiple partner marriages. Those people pay taxes and are consenting adults for the most part. So I feel polyandrous and polygamist couples should be included. They should live fear free and in the open as well. Tolerance should be extended to them and their families too. Fair is fair.

I'm sorry but Natalie you sound ignorant as hell. No one's comparing black rights and gay rights. But it is hypocritical when Black people want their rights but don't care about other peoples rights. Plus my best friend is having a problem having children so you saying people who can;t reproduce are bad is wrong. You should really educate yourself before writing bigoted comments.

PS if you don;t want a gay marriage don't have one. No one's begging you to have one.

    • Dinah

There is a huge difference between not being able to reproduce and impossible to reproduce. Natalie made that comment because it is impossible for two men or women to reproduce. In the future, everyone needs to think before they type!

      • Guest

My son is handicapped… it is IMPOSSIBLE for him to reproduce. dinah what you said is ignorant and for you to say think before you type HOW DARE YOU. you people make me sick. I guess since he can't reproduce he's an evil person.

Well i agree that black struggles and gay struggles aren't exactly the same but that doesn't stop the homosexual community and their supporters from drawing comparisons and using the civil rights movement as an outline and rallying point to try and gain what they consider equal and civil rights. Which they are using this method very effectively. While they may not be the same, their are elements in the two movements that are very similar which is why trying to compare the two is effective in the first place. No body wants to be seen as the one infringing upon basic human rights after all. This method can be used continuously for others who want "equal/civil rights" as well.

    • Zara

Also,I am in no way concerned about the polygamist community and their rights. I simply made a comment and u replied, you had inaccuracies in your statement which I thought was irrelevant so i just replied back to your comment explaining my point which u said that you didn't really get. That does not mean I'm pro-polygamy so I have absolutely no interest in starting a campaign for the polygamist cause.

GOOD for them! About time! We need religious FREEDOM seriously because this has gotten way out of hand! Why can't those gay people have a civil union? Don't want to call it "marriage" because of the christian connotation that marriage is between a man and a woman? FINE. But let them have the SAME rights as us straight people do just call it something else. Half of those people be together for YEARS.. One of them dies and their partner has no rights? That's messed up for real. CONGRATS to them.

  • Creole86

I have no problem with gay marriage. If gays want to get married then fine with me. Not everyone in America is Christian so using the bible to prove otherwise is irrelevant. Also i hope that anyone who opposes gay marriage isn't
    1. Divorced
    2. A baby mother/father
    3. A child who was born out of wedlock themselves
    4. all of the above

It just makes me sick that most of the people who say marriage is sacred are atleast one of these cases. If you didn;t care about the sanctity of marriage why should you judge someone else.

  • Zara

    Polygamy will probably be next…..eventually

    • shut up

yeah because that makes perfect sense #FAIL

      • Zara

        it does make perfect sense.

        • Zara

          Hey Mary
I didn't say they would start polygamy nor did i say that polygamy didnt exist. And by the way polygamy has been around almost as long as traditional marriage has and is still practiced all over the world so I'm not sure how the hip hop community remotely ties into this because it's been around way before that and is irrelevant to what im saying. Having multiple partners is not the same as having a legalized marriage between multiple spouses. There's a difference. What i am saying is that changing the definition of marriage means that it can definitely be changed again to include other groups of people. Especially if the same or similar arguments can be made to legalize it for other groups of people.

        • Prissy

HELLO Mary!!! Please PREACH!! Polygamy has been around for CENTURIES!!! Zara…. GOOGLE some AFRICAN History it has been around since BEFORE colonialization of Africans to become christians. And it is STILL being practiced TODAY even in America.. Hello to the STATE of UTAH… That state was FOUNDED upon that principle. Look at the Mormon religion. I might not "agree" or "understand" them but THAT is their life and how they choose to live. I don't live with them so WHO CARES??
