Top 5 On-Screen Fathers We Can’t Stand

June 19th, 2011 - By Victoria Uwumarogie

Father’s Day is always a great day to reflect on the amazing things your own dad has done for you, and on a website that focuses a lot on women most of the time, it’s nice to show some love to the men, especially the committed fathers out there, near and far, real or fake…

We’ve already most recently given mad props to our favorite fathers from our favorite movies, but now it’s time to put on blast a few fathers from some film and television gems, who can’t seem to act right. Their deeds have made them some of the crappiest dads out there, and hopefully this list will help you be more grateful for the dad you’ve got. Cause he could be one of these fools…

Oh, one more thing. If you have not seen “For Colored Girls,” but you plan to see it, do NOT click on the last slide. *SPOILER ALERT*

"…. feeling under-appreciated for his efforts in the war…."
He wasn't feeling unappreciated. He had PTSD! That doesn't justify the character's behavior, of course, but treating it like he was just a big pouty cry-baby is a pretty big misinterpretation of who he was and why he did what he did.

  • LuvleyChoc

Forest Whitakers character on Jason's Lyric was a terrible father too. Remember he had that limp from a war injury? He was a alcoholic and was abusive to their mom and the son ended up killing him…*SMH* i can't believe they left him off this list!

  • GrammarGods

does free speech should never excuse grammatical errors people…grammar check!

  • Kiana

y r so many people r here so angry n have sum the nastiest things to say to each other if u dont like the site get off there r plenty of other ones i refuse to let anyone still my joy where is the love cant we all just get along

  • Military Gal

@Mary. Who's angry and who said that anyones comment is bothering me? Yes everyone does have a right to free speech and I get up each morning willing to defend that right However if people are thinking that this is an attempt to ruin their day then why not get log off and enjoy the day instead of letting people attempt to ruin it? Obviously you have a problem with what Im saying to respond to me. You can continue to have this problem and log off as well.

  • Mary

    @Military Gal
Why are you so angry there entitled to their opinion. That's why the article has a comments section. I don't mind the article but they do have a point. Like WTF said its a free country they can say whatever they want i don't know why your so angry. If anything, if people comments are bothering you maybe you should log off. I don't know how someone can get angry at someone else who's upset about another negative portrait of black people. And like WTF said earlier it wouldn;t be so bad if they would've added people like Charlie Sheen or John Gosslin.

  • Military Gal

How about all you that has a problem with the article to log off and enjoy your father's day? Then you wont have to worry about anyone trying to ruin this day for you?

  • annonymos

This is some utter bs!!! On the one day where men are supposed to be honored for their contributions on being a father and there is still a way to ruin it! Shame on this article! Black always find a way to put one another down! This is why our race will never succeed!

  • Ebony M

Maybe we should create a bad father's day to all the bitter motherf*ckers that want to ruin the day! But for just for today, can we focus on the good fathers that are out there doin' their thang and give it up to them? IJS*** Happy Father's Day to all those out there doin' their thing. We love you and appreciate all that you are doing for not only your children, but for the community as a whole.

  • Tchanielle

I definitely understand the humor this article was intended to create but I am not a male and feel that there are negative undertones towards black men!! I am sure that it would have been just as easy to create a "Top 5 On-Screen Fathers We Love" article. We have to encourage our black men not continue to highlight those who portray the deadbeat or abusive role!!

I know this is wrong of me but I laughed at the end of the Jackson clip. Whoever was responsible for that editing needs to go to hell.

  • eshowoman

Oh please! A little article with a sense of humor does not match up to decades of black male female bashing in music, comedy and everyday public discourse. Get a life you sad, oversensitive morons.

    • WTF

That may be a case but no ones saying that female bashing isn't right either. The fact of the matter is that articles like this do nothing. It doesn't help the situation abtout bad fathers its just there for no reason. It's like that article from psychology today about black women. It was just a useless article that did nothing but fill space.

Oh and nice use of name calling people who got offended (sad, over sensitive (by the way they're two words), morons) it really helped get your point across and made you seem young #FAIL

  • Worldchanger!

@WTF, I was trying 2 find a way to say what u said nicely! This site is always full of Black bashing in general!

  • WTF

Was this the sites way of sprinkling some black male bashing in on Father's Day. How rude and disrespectful. It's funny i didn't see an article like this on Mother's day, but I'm sure since that would be disrespectful to black women it would be wrong.

    This article was useless

    • InnocentTruthIsBack

I have said on many occasions that this website promotes an anti black male agenda. Instead of focusing on Father's Day this site prefers to bash black fatherhood . Damn shame.
