Texas Officials Release Sandra Bland Intake Footage To Dispel Rumors That She Was Dead In Her Mugshot
Shortly following the release of Sandra Bland’s mugshot, rumors that the 28-year-old was dead prior to her arrival at the Waller County Jail spread across social media platforms like wildfire. In an apparent attempt to do some damage control, Waller County Judge Trey Duhon held a press conference where he released intake footage from the day of her July 11 arrest, the New York Daily News reports. In the video, which is hours long, Bland can be seen speaking with officers, making phone calls and taking a mugshot after changing out of her sundress into a prison uniform.
“This video has not been altered or doctored in any way. These are the raw files,” said Duhon. “It is important that we release this information because we have received death threats against Waller County officials. We have received threats against our facilities. And this is based on this notion that Sandra Bland was dead before she was even brought to the Waller County Jail.”
“Unfortunately you have people putting information out there that she was murdered and deceased before she was brought to the Waller County Jail,” he continued.
As previously reported, Texas officials claim she hanged herself using a plastic garbage bag three days after her arrest. A preliminary autopsy conducted by the county also seems to confirm the suicide claims; however, Bland’s family and countless supporters remain skeptical.
