Black Twitter Talks: Charles Barkley, Black Face (again) & Walmart’s Fat Girl Costumes

October 28, 2014  |

Temperatures around the country may be dropping as we head deeper into fall, but the tweets are always hot. Here’s what Black Twitter’s been chatting about lately.

Dear White People: Halloween is not an excuse to wear black face

It happens every year, and so far, this year is no exception. As folks dressed up for early Halloween parties last weekend, images of several Ray Rice-themed costumes made the rounds on social media. One especially heinous costume showed a little boy dressed in a Rice jersey (in black face) dragging a Black doll. This was terrible on a few fronts: 1) Black face is NEVER acceptable, 2) domestic violence isn’t a laughing matter, and 3) who let’s their kid make fun up both Black folks AND domestic violence? It was like the holy trifecta of bad parenting. And the tweets were watching.

Not Black but still want to be a Black person for Halloween? No problem. Just be creative and leave the face painting alone.
