Nailed It!: 18 Plaid Nail Designs To Fall Into

October 1, 2014  |

Plaid nails are a great way to zap your digits right into the best parts of Fall and totally make us think of both cozy warm fires and the holidays. This year opt for mixing it up with thick and thin lines, funky tones, French manis dipped in plaid and even using plaid nail art stickers. If you’re thinking along the holidays look for bright reds, greys, silvers, sequins, bold whites, sharp blacks and even the classic Christmas theme of red, yellow, green and white!

To recreate this look at home (could be fun to try with your teen and pre-teen) here are the key supplies and simple steps to rock this out!

Supplies Needed:

  • Two or more various shades (ideally white polish should be in this mix or whatever color your going to create the lines with)
  • Small paint brush or toothpick
  • Medium paint brush

Step One: As always, start off with a base coat to protect your natural nails.

Step Two: Paint your nails a base color of your choice

Step Three: Using a toothpick or small paint brush you can create the basic box design with white polish or the contrast color from the base. Your first line will go to the right corner of your nail or any direction you choose. Be sure to decide if you want something off-centered or not and keep that in mind when drawing the lines.

Step Four: Next, take a lighter color and  add lines to the left of the parallel lines and to the top of the horizontal lines. Be bold and opt for a textured polish like glitter!

Step Five and Final Step: End with a base coat to protect your design and add shine!
